Cameron1991: Would anyone be able to better clarify what work the technician does on your property?

The Telecom page says the technician only needs to install a new jackpoint over a period of 1-2 hours. Other posts in this thread have talked about completely isolating the new line so I'm a little bit confused as to exactly what happens! Other than the jackpoint installation will the technician need to knock any other big holes in my walls and ceiling?
My house was built in the early '80s so I assume the wiring is entirely copper if that helps at all.
A Telecom technician also did some minor work on our jackpoints about 5 years ago but I am unsure if he made any changes to our cabling.

Also many of the line attenuation stats people have posted are considerably higher than what mine appear to be, so I am unsure if I am reading them wrong or if I am just looking at wrong page.

More to this - since this thread is about Telecom VDSL plans I'd recommend you guys to post on Snaps Thread [Here] - In reality though, I own a Fritz!Box and out of all honesty they're good but I find mine heats up to the point it likes to reboot, the Thompson works totally fine and seems to be more reliable than my Fritz (which is on the Fritz), it really comes to personal preference, they're both made in China, they both are at the same pricepoint, our Thompson has more ethernet ports (depending on what Fritz! you go for).

Saying [Product] is better than another [Product]? Let's not turn this into an Apple vs Android thread please.

I think it's fair to say the Fritz!Box is the more feature filled modem but it only matters if you intend to use the features. As a power user the ATA, DECT base station and VPN are the features that stand out for me. The ATA is somewhat redundant when you have POTS. The VPN is pretty technical to setup for the average user.

If you're just using it to share your VDSL via wireless the Thompson is more than enough for 99% of people. And of course, both modems will work with either provider :)

Mine is about 2 years old now, and it's great, just a shame it overheats and crashes. Not sure on the new ones though. Our Thompson routers don't seem to overheat, melt, or crash all the time like my Fritz!Box does but hey - it's personal preference, they both serve the same purpose in life right? ;)

My Fritz!Box 7390 runs cool and ultra stable. Literally the best DSL router I've ever owned. That includes all the way back to the M1122!

Guessing yours was faulty.. Don't tar them all with the same brush lest we do that with Thompsons too ;)

Quite amazing how far we've come in just over a decade. VDSL at 30-70Mbit vs ADSL rate limited to 128k (unless you were loaded) :)

Why is that? I had always imagined that that each DSL line is connected to it's own individual DSL 'switch' port in the exchange or cabinet and from that point onward it's just ones and zeroes with the only bottleneck being the back haul from the cabinet back into the network.

You said a naughty word :( - But in reality the Telecom and Snap installations are the same, we both install master filters and give you all the internet.

Really comes down to what team you're on, or what color you like best, I like Blue, blue is pretty awesome, but Orange is pretty awesome too but seems to burn out my retinas if I browse an orange site at night on my laptop, but based on your DP you're team orange, orange sign, the only conclusion is you have burnt retinas. In light to this though I'm very surprised Chorus allowed an install to go through based on your line attenuation.

michaelmurfy hacks the Chorus mainframe, and now all prequels add 10db line attenuation unless done through Telecom :)

I discontinued a 100Mbs Vodafone/TCL cable connection to go to ADSL2+ and 14Mbs so I could get a decent download cap (150GB up to 500GB). And the added bonus of no annoying transparent proxy.

I have now signed up for VDSL. If I can get at least 25Mbs I would be happy since it's hard adjusting to 14Mbs when you used to have 100Mbs (only an issue when lots of people are downloading at the same time).

I just ordered vdsl2 today :D my technician comes on 21/7/2013 im so excited i can download faster and upload my youtube vids really fast and have a better experience playing my bf3 online :D i can feel the power all ready and they haven't even installed it yet :D Im really excited because my adsl2 only goes at 2.50 mb and my upload speed is an awful 0.8 kb
