Was that moving from Go Large to Big Time?

@Fossie ask telecom to turn off interleaving, im 1.2km from a local phone exchange so i have a really clean line, i don't think the traffic shaping is affecting my since im getting a constant 4mbit (ADSL1) everything is instant to download...

Adventure --> BT.

i'v had a slow down of about 600kB/s for international it seems. Maxing out at 800kB/s instead of the old 1.4MB/s.

eg. 8 Megabytes every 10 seconds instead of 14.

How do I go about asking for interleaving to be turned off? We're connected straight to the exchange which is about 1.5ks away.

Using the highly subjective and full of confounders F.O.S.S.I.E test.

Just a comparison of a download from the same place yesterday and the same time.

@fossie ring telecom and ask for it to be turned off, it made a huge improvement to my internet connection, they will probably try and say no like tell you oh it may not work etc, just say im doing it and after midnight it will be done...

exportgoldman:

I was contacted by the Dominion Post they are running a story on Monday in the NZInfoTech section and wanted my opinion of the Big Time plan, the girl said they had contacted a few people from geekzone for comments about Telecom's new plan.

Looks like a few of us will have our ugly mugs in the paper waxing on about broadband. My only fear is how badly I will end up being misquoted :-) As I remember Mauricio always complaining about being misquoted - or could I have misquoted him myself.

So was I. She was interested in my trouble with youtube the first 2 days, (Telecoms cache server was running like a pig for me), but I did point out a couple of days after posting in here about it the problem misteriously fixed itself. :
I don't think theres alot I can be mis-quoted on. She was a wee bit surprised I downloaded 16 gig overnight. (All completely legit, ISO's from Technet). Here was the convo
her: "do you do file sharing?"
me: "No"
her: "And you downloaded 16 gig in 8 hours?"
me: "Yes, I wanted a test to see the speeds on Big Time and msdn/technet ISO's were a decent size, so I queued 4-5 up to see how it went."
her: "Oh OK"

Interesting to see how she quotes me on that snippet. LOL!

@fossie Weird. When I switched over they asked me if I wanted it turned off or left on.
I'm 1.5k from the exchange and getting around 2.4 Mbps going to LA right now.

'Not a problem, as requested I have turned off interleaving on your Big Time plan for you. It should become effective around mid-night tonight.'

Excellent.

Yeah I mentioned that I had moved from XNET and it was around the same price, but unlimited data and much much faster, told her I only did youtube/web which was the fastest I had seen youtube, but others were having trouble which I assumed was teething issues with the new caching clusters.

I said I moved away from Telecom a few years ago, but they had picked up their game and I had XT and the helpdesk was very painless to move across and this was Telecom's year, return of the king. :)

Did she ask you for a photo?

Yup.
EDIT: didn't see the return of the king part, . I wasn't that complementary to telecom, but just said the performance was alot better than I expected.

Yes, I'd be interested too.
My Go Large I had no choice (that I knew of) to turn off interleaving.
On Big Time it was off from Day 1 and my ADSL download sync seed doubled compared to Go Large.
I still have no explaination for that considering both were unlimited download speed.
