If your connection is unstable then you have a fault.

I find DSL to be rock solid other than during outages or when telecom are doing work on it. - Slow yes, but stable. Data always gets in and out.

If its a fault then Telecom cant find it. they have rehashed the line twice, replacing jackpoints, modems, filters, isolated hardware etc, Telecom has changed ports, switched interleaving back on, and still the problems are there.

So have given up at present, as we are planning to move house.

Telecom your excuse is weak and typical - you could just throttle the overusers at a certain limit if you wanted too - try something a little bit more imaginative instead of just canning the plan - smacks of failure and lack of imaginative marketing - Bigtime and XT WTG Telecom!!!!

Its idiotic to assume that Telecom hasn't already tried multiple options to fixing the problem. Do you really think that their first thought when confronted was "lets annoy our customers by removing the plan"?

Telecom is a business and they have to balance cost vs benefit and if the cost of fixing the issue outweighs the benefit then there is no sense in them continuing the plan.

Dont blame Telecom, the plan worked exactly as it was supposed to until a small minority went out of their way to try and avoid the traffic management which ruined it for everyone else.

It's idiotic to assume Telecom have.
All of these lies about how the can't manage there systems. No one actually believes that do they ???

Telecom merely see the $$$ in the useage and have seen they stand to gain a lot more revenue by just pulling the plan make some lame excuses then coin it from there extra low data cap plans with additional charges !
Or they will start some new plans but you can be assured they will be the winner. Stands to reason why not charge people for 200- 300gb for say $180 ??
Just made a nice $120 bucka from what used to be $59 for the same usage. Wake up people !

Let me get this straight... You blame some of the extreme end users over a company that didn't have the foresight to see that this would happen.

Seriously it doesn't take a rocket scientist. Unlimited usage plan means some people will use a lot, that's a given.

Lack of vision and foresight is a historical problem with this company. Too quick to release a product before proper testing is done. Read my previous post on page 17 about: Xtra Games, Go Large, Bubble, TiVo, XT and Big Time.

I love how there is so many New users signed up with the soul purpose to post abuse in this thread with comments like

What I don't think you new users get is Actual people work for Telecom,

I would be lying if I said I wasn't annoyed with this announcement but Telecom isn't state owned any more, they are a listed company, with a obligation to there share holders to make a profit.

A LOT of people have obviously sat around a table and done the numbers and realized this plan isn't suitable. And the chances most of the users making the biggest moan about big time ending are the *Leechers* pulling excessive amounts each month who need to realize pulling 1tb a month actually costs.

All I have to say to them is, go find another provider willing to provide unlimited internet for $60 /month, There isn't any as far as I know the most you will get from isp's for that amount each month will be 20-30gb.

My idea for a replacement plan would be to do the American style of "unlimited" where soft caps apply and if you exceed it too much they kick you from the plan.

Come on!!! All FANTASTIC ideas that have failed miserably. I won't even bother talking about Go Large. Bubble (Yahoo/Xtra services) was released to the whole country in one day... DUH! TiVo technical support was given to the broadband helpdesk who received SALES training, not technical training. XT had no redundancy and now Big Time which was close to working is pulled.

I give up. I'm definitely leaving Telecom and I'll make sure family and friends do too!

PS - I know these sort of threats seem idle but when you get enough pissed off people talking...

You forgot Xtra Games. They used to host servers too, and had a empty forums :)

Yes but I do remember there CS 1.6 Servers were always full.

Abuse is noted elsewhere, e.g unlimited text plans, fair use polices, etc. No excuse

The whole soft cap thing is a good idea.

150GB soft cap and say maybe 2mbps/512kbps on peak and line speed off speak. I should build my own damn ISP and give people a decent service.

You're right a lot of us have signed up for the first time to talk about this because we have something to say. Doesn't make what we have to say have any less value... not all of us at least :p

You're right they do have an obligation to their shareholders, that's my point. Happy customers + well thought concepts = profit.

Agreed. No problem with that at all. So the traffic shaping was put in place to relocate that form of continual usage to offpeak, to allow the normal majority to use peak, and to allow the HIGH users to get what they want off peak. That is a reasonable solution.

If you feel it was poor insight to not figure that many will work out how to bypass shaping, that is your opinion.

The other two popular forums disclosed how to bypass it, how much that added to the users bypassing I cannot answer.

Do you honestly believe the work around was the cause? Not being a smartass :p Serious question.
Workaround would have been easy to fix.
