IME 4g is comparable to a wifi adsl connection for browsing. Much nicer and more responsive than 3g. Even dual carrier has up to a few seconds delay when changing pages in even good signal.

I also agree the speed does make everyday usage better.

Aside from the Speedtests, are people using more data than on 3g? I don't seem to be using noticeably more.

I'm impressed
I got 1 bar of LTE today, and the speeds were still pretty decent. Device is HTC 8X.
Hopefully when i go into the CBD, i'll get 5 bars and run a full speed test, and get some of those sexy 50 mbps speeds

Hey all - does anyone else have a Blackberry Z10 with a Telecom 4G SIM?  I received my SIM the week before last, however whilst it works for voice and 3G I cannot get it onto 4G.

I have followed the help pages on Telecom's website, and there are no updates available, and no option for 4G.

I went into the Telecom store in Newmarket and they said 4G is not yet available for the Z10, but had no idea why and no date as to when.  Which is really odd as the help pages show a screenshot of 4G on a Z10 screen!

Anyone know why? Could this be related to not having 10.2?

Seems odd that one of the phones mentioned in the 4g requirements page cannot work on 4g.....

Sorry, what do you mean "it has to be unlocked in an update"?  I have checked for updates several times, and there is nothing available.  The phone is not locked, and was bought from Telecom NZ (Newmarket store).

As the firmware stands the 4G functionality is not enabled.  Until there is a software update enabling it you cannot use 4G on that device.

I did this with my telecom htc one last night and can confirm it works to turn on 4g - Signal strength indicator showing 4g and speed test is getting 80mb down and 40mb up :) (this is almost as quick as my home fibre connection.. amazing stuff!)

1. Open the dialer
2. Type in *#*#4636#*#*
3. Go to Phone Information
4. Scroll down to "Set preferred network type" and select GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto from the drop down box.

This change is temporary and resets after a reboot.

I see.  Don't suppose you know what the official Telecom word is on this.  Despite 3 phone calls to Telecom (one to Blackberry support) and 2 visits to stores, no-one knows why it isn't working, why the website shows it is working, or when it will be fixed.

Maybe try asking them on Twitter or Facebook.  Probably your best bet for things like this.

I'm having the same experience with my Z10 and Telecom support. From what I can tell it's supposed to be working, but isn't. The instructions I was given was to turn the phone off, remove the battery and SIM for 3 minutes, making sure I was in a good coverage area while doing this. Apparently it was to make the device pick up a 'carrier update' which was explained to me to be different to a BlackBerry software update.

I've tried this several times as instructed but the closest I've got is the 'LTE/HSPA+/UMTS/GSM' options being available briefly after restart with the phone having a think about the available networks, then promptly reverting to the '3G & 2G' options only.

I'm waiting to hear back from them about what I'm supposed to try next. Maybe you'll have better luck with this.

It's a bit hard to get things done on the Blackberry Z10 front folks, when four of their employees in Australia/New Zealand left the company in the last month, including the Developer Relations Manager and the Enterprise Carrier/Technical person based in Auckland...

I'd say Blackberry Z10 owners shouldn't hold their breath while waiting.

I'd be returning the Blackberry and swapping it for something else. If they were being sold as being 4G capable and aren't then that seems rather misleading. Least with the HTC One you can reasonably easily turn it on and a fix is going to come.
