ants: you wont get faster downstream. the only difference here is bigtime has uncapped upstream, so if with xnet you had cap at 128 or 256 or what have you, here youll get as much as your line will allow. if xnet's downstream was uncapped, you wont get anymore as that's limited by the line, modem and the exchange.
in other words, if you are on an upcapped plan with one ISP, changing ISP's wont affect your connect rates, its only limited by the line and the hardware itself. youre still sitting on the same cabinet, dslam, modem, etc. your throughput may change, but not the connect rates.
ants:PlatinuM195: Just switched to Big Time from xnet pay-per-gig. So far so good, but I don't seem to be getting faster downstream sync:
Downstream Rate: 7547 kbps
Upstream Rate: 733 kbps

muncher12: if im right different settings from different isp's make a difference. for example: you live one block away from the exchange or any distance and you are with orcon, you will have faster sync rates then if you were with telecom.

nope unfortunately this isnt the case. the wires that connect you to the exchange itself are still the same. thats a common misconseption, "stuff telecom, ill go to ihug". in the end theyll end up being connected through the same pair and half the time through the same port/card on the exchange. ofcourse the plans / customer service and all that other hoohaa makes a big difference, but as far as the connect rates go they wont change.
