Well i It would seem fair otherwise people would be using a ton of usage.
Seems what i figured out for me:
11 pm to like 7 am i get like 500 - 700kbs download rate
8 am till 11 i have no idea yet
11am till 3pm i get like 180kbs
3pm till 11 pm Drops to about 60 - 140kbs Depending on the day it seem's
I have been on the Big Time plan for about 4 Day's so far Gaming isn't to much effected still can deal with it, pings are the same so its not effected that much by "shaping" or that other user's are sharing.
Http downloads are a bit slower than normal during "Slow time" But all in all quite happy with this plan
I finally got switched over to Big Time last wednesday. yay
I don't do any torrent downloading but I tried out usenet and I can't get it to download anything at all before 11pm. I'm not too fussed though because all other traffic hums along at 200kbs on average, sometimes up to 600kbs.
Overall I'm really pleased (way better than being stuck on dialup speed when I go over the cap) and especially impressed with Telecom's ability to slow down the right kind of traffic.

I highly doubt the problem you have is related to the bigtime plan. More likely some setting has been changed in error when they changed you over.
Have you tried calling the helpdesk (as painful as that usually is)?
I have been with Telecom for years, have changed my plans five times, with the latest change to Bigtime, same address, same router, and only now this is happening. As for the help desk they will say have you restarted your router, well yes four times a day. I think Bigtime has a DPI layer and when international capacity is stressed Bigtime users get the big reset, a bit like power companies, they ripple the hot water, maybe Bigtime users are Telecoms version of the hot water cylinder.
I think it would be fairly pointless to reset your connection when they already restrict p2p traffic across the board on the plan during peak time for everyone on the plan.
It's more likely some kind of incompatibility between your router and a setting on the ADSL profile for your line like Farcus suggests.
Another possibility is you're running more p2p downloads since you're on an unlimited plan and your modem can't handle the number of connections, there are a lot of modems (especially older or cheap ones) that fall over completely when you create a lot of tcp/ip connections.
So you are telling me that Telecom have different Dlink DSL settings for Big time that is not the same as I would use on my Dlink when I use any of the other DSL plans.
I have a DSL-g604t and they have been confirmed as correct by Telecom help desk.
Well there are thousands of people using Big Time and there would be a lot more complaints if everyone was getting reset all the time.
It's thus fairly logical to assume it's a problem between your modem and the port in the exchange.
My fairly limited understanding of how it works is that every line connects to a port on the DSLAM at the exchange (or cabinet). Each DSLAM port has a profile aka a bunch of settings, the profile settings are a balancing act between stability and performance.
Following a logical process it's either a fault with your modem (can you test a different modem?) or an issue with the settings on the port profile.

I agree with others here, it sounds like either a port config issue at Telecom's end, or your router finally giving up the ghost.
I'm not even sure if Telecom change the port config at the exchange if your a existing Telecom customer, I would hazzard a guess that they simply put you in a different bandwidth pool.
I'm picking your router has decided to die. Do you have another power supply for it, thats a common cause of router lockups.

I don't use torrents but have found since changing to big time 3 days ago, my general browsing and connection speed has actually increased.
I'd def happy with it and it's a great time for it to come along with my recent cost-contraints, the fixed monthly fee is superb, if only they could now make the calling plan on Total Home longer than the standard max 2 hours per call "just in case"
At 7:45 AM I had to reboot my router, my son was on the internet to 1AM (Uni student) he had no problems, so between 1 AM and 7:45 AM with no network activity except for my batch DSL modem sending a bit rate of 56Kbits to my home PC, and a bittorent download about 30kbits (max) the connection to my home was reset (Bigtime plan) my batch DSL is Explorer same Dlink router, both supplied by Telecom. General browsing is OK but broadband is about highdef youtube, watching top gear and stuff that isn't full of ads, but Bigtime doesn't even achieve this. unless you fire up 6 tabs leave for an hour and then come back and watch.
I don't think there's any other ISP in NZ that can match Telecom's performance for Youtube (for now). It just streams really quick, without the need to keep re-buffering, including HD ones.
So if you're having problems with Youtube, there is a high chance it's a fault on your end.
