If it's barred, then it's probably stolen... And that should then involve the police as I am reasonably sure handling stolen goods is illegal.

so telecom have told me its not black listed but it still could be ?? Has the phone been locked by a 3rd party source ?

Quick update.

When i insert my sim into my old phone and then insert it into Galaxy S3 for 1 second it has

GSM Service: In service

And shows up as me being on telecom.

But after that one second of joy it show emergency calls only in network and

GSM Service: Emergency Calls only.

Telecom are lead to believe its due to my micro sim being version 2. Not version 3. I tried a brand new telecom micro sim at the telecom shop but had no luck. Also telecom see the Galaxy S3 as my old phones model when my sim is inside it.

Update : It is blacklisted as suspected. I'll leave it to the OP to fill in details if they want to..

The reason why you may have got the not blocked reply from the CSr's, is because we employ 2 types of blocks, SIM blocks and device block or both. Your SIM is not blocked.

If it's blacklisted, then it's almost certainly stolen - you will need to contact the Police and/or Trademe.

Wait is it me but usually if you have the box means that you brought it ? Maybe stolen from a store ??

That's one of many possible scenarios. Does the IMEI match the sticker on the box?

In any case, it will bear further investigations - it's not as easy as getting your phone unlocked, it is potentially stolen property so rightfully belongs to the original owner.

I think that the original person has claimed insurence on his phone after he sold it (because its in the original box) for being lost/stolen and I have ended up with the "lost" phone.

In your original post you said it doesnt work on any networks in NZ, have you tried 2Degrees? Strange as I didn't think they were part of the stolen phone database but hopefully that has changed.

Have a 2 degrees micro sim. No luck. could be out of date though. That exactly what I thought aswell. Im thinking to ring telecom and get them to add me to the block list and then unadd me. maybe this will wil remove any block on it.
