Still not getting it, as in what they are offering, unless this is a discount deal to get people to cross over?

Seem weird, email I have states these as the prices, and each option/package has the exact same things bundled in it as well.

Option 1 = 150GB for $99, 500GB for $119

Option 2 = 500GB for $99

Anyone in their right mind would go for the $99 option 2, since the package is identical to what is in option 1. What is the catch, anyone else being made these offers?

Does the more expensive 500GB have an additional calling plan option for the phone part?

They door knockers and phone sales typically can offer $10-20 off website prices (depending on contract length) for new signups going into contract.

I am going hoarse saying this... Telecom does not do any active traffic management (shaping) of any plans, beyond what happens if you go over your monthly cap AND have elected to be shaped to a 'dialup-like' speed.

While there are a heaps of ways that performance could vary (remote site issues, TCP doing it's thing, congestion in our, Chorus's or someone elses network etc), there's no shaping done on the Telecom 500GB plan, or the 150, or the 50, or any of them.

I am in a position to know this for a fact but I won't be backing it up with configs from our BNGs or anything.

I'm not going to make any recommendations about whether any one ISP would be better than any other as I'd undoubtedly be accused of being biased so I can't help you with your choice apart from the fact above.

To be honest I haven't heard of the $99 for 500gb plan. So it must be a one off discount from the door knocker and since they have now left that deal isn't on the table.

To reiterate (and yes I agree with Neil it does get boring repeating ourselves time and time again in multiple threads).

Telecom doesn't rate shape, throttle, layer 7 fu to reduce the speed of certain types of traffic over and above if you choose to be throttled back to dialup esq speeds when / if you exceed your data cap.

Plus Telecom do have a number of CDN's (Google, Akamai et al) within our network provided by said CDN providers, so typically the speed you get off YouTube is your line speed.

There are some special promo rates around. Since a phoneline costs more in different parts of NZ there is also a WLG/AKL/CHC price and a "rest of NZ" price.

The $99 package is named "Seal The Deal" it has everything the $119 package has, from the email sent to us.

I live in Napier, so no special main center pricing here, hence why wondering is there is a catch, there is a lot of fine print that is somewhat complex to understand and must be read correctly.

Also the exchange box is located directly across the road, about 20 m or so from our house. We get ~18mps with speed test, can sustain a download of 2.1MB per second from a good source.

YouTube buffering is almost always caused by poor internal wiring needing a master filter, backhaul problems, lack of local Google Cache from the isp or poor international capacity or any combination of the three.

Buffering YouTube on Telecom is something I would not expect at all. Especially considering recent upgrades. If it was happening then it would be your wiring. And I can check that very easily and tell you that you need a master filter.
