yes, you are right, their site doesnt give all the information you need.

if it did, i would have quoted it myself. as i said "last i saw".

well, it's pretty hard to compare to an ISP who's site doesn't even work.

I did find their previous VDSL offer though:

That was no contract, but had a mandatory $150+GST connection fee, AND an optional wiring charge for a master filter of $150+GST, so that would probably explain how they could do no contract.

Leave us out of this discussion.

We stopped offering VDSL late last year and pulled down the webpages containing all the information.

When we were actively selling it, a VDSL splitter was mandatory and included in the 12 month contract.

Installation - $150+GST. For most locations in Auckland, Waikato & Bay of Plenty.
Our installation service is optional but highly recommended as we install what is called a "Master Splitter" at your premises and make sure your wiring is going to perform as best as it can for VDSL. Pricing can vary dependent on your location (contact us on sales@fullflavourmedia.co.nz with your address and we can confirm this for you).

I wouldn't worry about it. Snap also had optional master filter too up until the change in pricing (august?).

Bigpipe only offers naked VDSL.

Even if Naked, without the house wiring reduced to a single non tapped transmission line (with or without a filter) you are going to have wiring issues with VDSL2.

regardless, the point that was trying to be made by bringing you guys into it, was that even you made splitters mandatory, for good reason...

No offence taken.

We've checked with Chorus (multiple times - including again this morning). They are happy with us doing it this way.
They own the network and have all the technical knowledge required so they should rightfully have the final say in the matter.

It certainly makes for an interesting discussion to have on geekzone, and I'm happy to have that discussion as long as people keep things civil. Ultimately it comes down Chorus and the decision about their network.

If that changes (and I accept that it may do), we will re-assess. In fact we are constantly re-assessing our business, as all good businesses should.

We're always looking at how we make things better. Everything in business is ultimately a trade-off though. If we can find a way to make a master splitter install work as part of the sign up procedure without compromising too much on other important elements of the business (like no contract and no connection fee) then we will. We've had very few issues so far, and where there is a genuine issue, we sort it.

I'm glad that it's not mandatory as I don't need or want one as I have a single jack. To force me to pay for a chorus visit that will achieve nothing is absurd.

by all means insist on it for installs with multiple sockets but to blanket send a tech out via a chorus booking is not cool.

I rang up Telecom and they're offering 500GB for $99, VDSL modem, and free connection (including a master filter) with a 12 month contract. I think in our situation (old wiring) it makes sense to just go with telecom and cut our losses on the modem we purchased.

We currently have a Draytek Vigor2760n.

Dont sell the Draytek, you'll probably find it much than the Telecom supplied router.
