Jase2985: yep back up, now hopefully with that port reset i should be back to normal in 10 days

You kinda need to stop worrying about DLM so much, it will get there when it gets there.
Its constantly monitoring the line at frequent intervals, and it only changes a profile about once a week.
It would have dropped in a resync after any adverse line conditions as well. Mine fluxuates anywhere between 58Mbit - 67Mbit depending.

this.

although movements from say DLM-2 to DLM-1 will take upwards of a month to happen, which can be a pressing reason to reset it..

then again, if you have a 17a profile.... you might be better waiting.

Also have seen lines turn out worse by resetting it, its a balancing act really.

i dropped to 35/10 doing the testing for telecom and also from a 0ms delay to a 16ms delay, so yes im going to ask for a port reset to speed up the process a little

last time i had an outage it took 35 days to drop the ping back to where its been in the past.

you got all the way to a 16ms profile? that would sting a little!

fyi, DLM-1 is 1ms each way not 0ms..

Port reset won't do much, it is basically "rebooting" the port you're on. Just wait it off, the DSLAM will put you back to speed. Sounds to me you've been rebooting your router so it thought your line was unstable.

i rebooted it at the request of the spark staff as part of their investigation into what the fault was. I know better than to reboot my modem unless its absolutely necessary

Bingo, the DSLAM will put you on a slower profile to get you syncing again and will up it when it finds it necessary. You could potentially ask for a "DLM Reset" like I believe Tim had to do once for himself but other than that it is best to wait it off, the DSLAM will put your profile back if it can get away with it.

DLM operates even after the 10 day period.

i do know that, it operates at a slower speed after the 10 day period. im not a noob coming on here asking his first question.

as i said earlier, last time my line had a fault on it (chorus issue) it took 35 days to drop from dlm2 to dlm1. im now on dlm3. im up for a potential wait of 70+ days to drop back to where it was before, or call for a port reset and potentially be there in less than 10.

isnt that what a port reset is for? to speed up dlm changes after faults?

Nope, that was never the intended purpose.

this.

port resets just happen to cause DLM retrains...
