Hi LittleDude,

I initially bought ASUS DSL-AC68U and struggled with it for 2 days.

I finally changed my router to RT-AC68U and enjoying seamless Wireless connection at home. Not a single reboot after I installed it in December.

As suggested by MagicMatt, buy an RT series router and it will directly connect to fibre.

Cheers.

I contacted ASUS to clarify and below is the reply.

"The Optical fiber ISP need special modem with it.

For such situation, the DSL-AC68U is just used as router product feature function

fiber modem->DSL-AC68U -> device

Sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you very much for your understanding

The DSL-AC68U does not support directly connect with fiber ISP wan internet."

The ONT is the "special fiber modem". It does need to "just route" but it needs.to tag the vlan on the wan port to work.

See if you can escalate with them to someone more senior or just return it.

I haven't bought one yet but hoping that it would fully support fiber. Fiber is probably years away and even then I'm on a shared driveway complicating things so I might grab one anyway.
Thanks for all the input :)

Was using my RT-AC68U with VDSL using a Draytek VG130 in fully bridged mode, now using it plugged directly into the ONT running 200Mbps fibre with VLAN10 tag on the WAN interface.

Works perfectly.

Fibre doesn't use a "modem", it just has an optical --> ethernet media converter (the ONT as installed by Spark\Chorus\Whoever)

Apparently the Asus support person has no idea how their own products work.
