While youtube normally runs great for me on Fibre 30/10 its been slow for the past couple of weeks.
Where it would easily stream 4K it now struggles on 720p
It seems to be getting alot worse.
Some youtube vids will play without hitch, then the next 1 or 2 the stream would stop for up to a minute part way in, 30secs, then another stoppage
But, here's the kicker. Use a youtube downloader it it downloads at very high speed without any issues.
Its getting to the point that I'm now just downloading youtube vids rather than try & stream/watch them online.
What's the best downloader to use? Had a firefox plug in but now it's no longer free :(

Good morning everyone, can you all please advise if there has been any improvement in your YouTube performance now?
My views are my own, and may not necessarily represent those of my employer.
I logged a ticket with big pipe and Praveen has advised their customers are also having issues and their technical team is actively working on it with no ETA.

Big Pipe has nothing at all to do with Spark so any such issues are unlikely to be related. It's a completely separate ISP network.

As mentioned above by Cbrpilot - could people please report in IF they were experiencing issues with youtube playback. We've identified and fixed a problem and a cascading issue (outside our BB network) that is very likely to have been the cause of these issues.
The fix we've done may also have helped some other providers as well (like Bigpipe in this case)
I can see traffic levels have returned to normal levels at all points I have visibility of (as at about midday).

I was having issues playing 1080p+ videos Wednesday through Saturday, but since then it's been fine if that helps.

Yep seems to be good at the moment. I was streaming a 4k video with no interruptions. The real test will be from 4-12pm tonight when all the kids etc get home and rampage the internet.
I've had a similar situation as well. When I watch YouTube later at night, it struggles bad, but during the day its fine. You think they throttle us?
joker97: No throttling.
Congestion. ....
If congestion, I wouldn't be able to do a download at very good speeds (good for adsl)
Perhaps, they are prioritising youtube down (throttling by another name)
Just wild, tin foil hat speculation of course, with no basis in fact ![]()
