freitasm: TNZ had earlier confirmed at least one Windows Mobile Smartphone Worldmode - the Samsung Ace, which should be here in April. I will post more details later tomorrow.

Hi Mauricio,

Any detail on the Samsung Ace yet?

Cheers
Bernard

freitasm: It's confirmed: Telecom BlackBerry data roaming pricing is divided in zones.

I don't know what Telecom is on these days, but I can't find this PDF on their site. Instead if you go the Telecom Data Roaming page you find a link entitled "See the data coverage and price points for the Blackberry 8830" that actually goes to a PDF that has nothing about coverage and price, instead are just instructions on how to setup the Telecom Worldmode BackBerry for data roaming.

For prices, check the first link I posted.

Just picked up one of these to try out since the user likes BB devices. It's a bit bulky compared with say the Pearl or Curve. And to make it work for him, we have had to install Blackberry Professional Server on our Exchange Server!  The rest of the mobile fleet are Okta Touches or Titans and they do remote mail/calendaring fine with Activesync.

Now this part I am not sure about. The user just headed off to Oz for a trip and apparently since we did not get Telecom (or ourselves) to associate the ESN with a SIM card prefix (not sure that is exactly the problem), the phone isn't working in Oz. Not sure if the user could just get a local pre-paid SIM to use in it since it could be SP locked.

As an aside we also have a fleet of T3G cards which I hope to ditch and just have users use their phones as modems for their laptops. But the BB can't do that Telecom told me for that user, he will still have to use the BB and a T3G card. That is a bit annoying since apparently VF BB's can do that.

The CDMA network is no longer active in Australia. To roam there (and almost everywhere) you have to get a Telecom SIM card and activate it before leaving the country.

Realise that. The phone had a Telecom SIM card in it (supplied directly by Telecom) but for some reason it doesn't work - some registration process wasn't completed prior to the trip?

You can call the IRHD on 0800 492 120, Opt 1, then 5. You will need to know the SIM Card Number, and of course the mobile number, but they should activate the SIM card for you.

Thanks. Could he stick in a local pre-paid SIM card?
