Hi Everyone

Does anyone know what the pricing of the BlackBerry is going to be?

I have heard that the device will be $999 (can't remember where now!) but
I can't seem to find anything on what the prices of the services are i.e. the BlackBerry Data prices etc.

TIA

BTW, hello to all - I've just started reading these forums!

Heya, and welcome to Geekzone ;-)

At this stage, pricing is still possibly going to change (especially the data plans) before a full launch of the device, so any prices that you could get wouldnt be 100% guaranteed.  The pricing / data allowance has changed at least a couple times over the last few weeks, and I wouldnt be surprised if it changes again before the official launch of the device.

AT THE MOMENT, it is being offered to select customers at the $999 price tag you mentioned.  But i guess this could also change.

Darkcyric you should not post any information here on Geekzone about data or handset pricing (pre-launch). I am assuming you work at a Dealer, and in that case you are clearly told who the information is for.

I have been hanging out to get pricing information for Telecom's BlackBerry Internet Service plans, which aren't yet posted on Telecom's website, for the BlackBerry 8830 which was launched to the public today.  I emailed their online support team and for those interested, the details are as follows:

15MB - $45 per month, including GST.
5MB - $35 per month, including GST.
Overage - $2 per MB.

I'd be interested to hear the BB Roaming charges for data, as they're currently $30/MB with Vodafone ($0.30/10KB)

Here's a table of Vodafone vs Telecom pricing for BB Internet Service (incl GST) for interests sake

Allocation Access
Overage
Roaming
Vodafone 10MB $39.38   $2.25/MB   $33.75/MB

100MB $50.63   $0.56/MB   $33.75/MB

Telecom 5MB $35.00   $2/MB   $30/MB

15MB $45.00   $2/MB   $30/MB

Nice work Telecom getting BB, will be looking into your solutions

nzbnw: BlackBerry data roaming on Telecom is $30/MB.

Again, no competition here - exactly the same price as Vodafone New Zealand.

Surely Vodafone and Telecom have different suppliers, different prices, different cost structure that would allow each company to set their own price, instead of working like a cartel?

Does anyone know when the Telecom BB is going to be released? I heard mid March but have not seen anything as yet.

I've heard it is available in stores from today. I am flying up to Auckland tomorrow for the Telecom media launch, as well as looking at their next Windows Mobile device.

It is being advertised today, and should be available as well. I have been using it for some months now and it's quite a good service.

Say hi to LK mauricio...

Thanks Mauricio. I see its on the Telecom website now. Will be interesting to see what new windows mobile devices they are coming out with this year. Keep us updated on your visit to Telecom tomorrow.

On another note I will be relocating to Australia shortly. If I have a Telecom worldmode phone will it be possible to unlock it to use in Aus with another GSm network there?

I don't beleive so, althrough even if you could it would be better to get a device in AUS than used an unlocked WM Worldmode Device from Telecom.

I saw the BlackBerry 8830 today and almost signed up to a device that has no camera?

Are there any worldmode (GSM/CDMA combo phones) coming to Telecom with all the essential bits.  Camera being one of them.

Having the SD card hidden under the battery cover is a little thoughtless also.  Another good miss guys...
Cheers
Bernard

Apart from camera, what also would you like to see?  The Okta Mondo has a PC Sync disk with it, both Mondo and Samsung
W531 have stereo PHF's and data cables...

The Orb web site 'www dot orb dot co dot nz' has good info on the Mondo, in particular quick tips in the phones section.  You can get a fell for it's uniqueness there.  Personally I like the Mondo menu.  Easy to find and change things for customers when you are in a hurry!

Plus I like to be able to select my menu options numerically, which both do!

The Mondo takes a micro SD card, the W531 has a small internal memory.  (Small to some, anyway...)

I thought I was going to get caught up in this :-)

I have a Palm Treo 650 which is really at end of life now,

It doesn't have WIFI/GPS or the combo mode GSM/CDMA.  Everything else is there.

All the other Telecom PDA devices are CDMA only and is why I want a combined GSM/CDMA unit.

Lets hope Mauricio can tell us something tomorrow.

Cheers
