pants.

the inlaws use an xtra email address and had me set up their phones, I just gave them the yahoo email app and they have been happy with that since. Ive read that website and cant seem to find info on it, anyone know what mobile app should I change them too if this is not going to be yahoo anymore? does spark have their own? (I am not a spark customer)

I am just anticipating a phone call and loads of questions once they find out.

Whats wrong with the mobile devices email client? That's all I've ever used, they've always worked well.

I had a quick read earlier, it should be fine as it uses the same email address and PW, worst case may be to remove the account and add it back

inlaws. logic does not apply. the yahoo one seemed to suit them better and they will not like any kind of change, a previous attempt to get them to use the default client has already tainted that option for them.

I think the likelihood of the Yahoo app still working post-migration is zero.

You will need to hand-hold them through the process of setting up the built-in email client. On the up-side I presume the device auto-configuration using RFC6186 should work once the go-live is complete as I am fairly sure Spark and SMX will setup the svr records to point to SMX so any recent device should just automagically figure itself out.

In the past I have seen it setup as pop/smtp by default with xtra when I set up phones, that means its pop, which is crap which I wish providers would just stop supporting. Give it another go when its live and see what happens.

Also try the gmail app instead of the phones inbuilt email app, it is quite good from the reports I have heard. I dont check my imap mailboxes on my phones since I dont need it telling me of the 100s of useless emails each day they get, but when I did I used k9 mail which was able to handle the massive amount in it way better than the stock samsung one which freaks out after about 15000 in the inbox.

I find POP very useful, I use POP on my laptop and I use Outlook as my email client. I like my own copy of emails on my laptop. It gives me the option of having all emails offline and I can search back through old emails for info I need from time to time. I clear out the emails I don't want in my inbox on a regular basis. This works well for me.

I use IMAP on all my mobile devices. I find the big advantage of using the default email client on the mobile device is it's usually integrated with other apps like the calendar etc. I find other apps like GMail or Outlook for Mobile etc don't integrate anywhere nearly as well.

Yahoo Xtra Bubble (expanding on my earlier comments) in my opinion was a nice idea on paper, but the implementation (it was 2007, btw) was absolutely shocking. I remember in 2008 Bubble just quietly disappeared as there was far too much negativity associated with the service, due to all the implementation problems.

I use Flickr a lot (for posting to forums and just storing photos online). Reading the Spark info about Yahoo services, it reads to me that you will lose the Pro account, as they just say to sign up with the free Yahoo account. AFAIK this does not give you the Flickr Pro account, so storage is limited (and I wouldn't be surprised if the free account is full of ads). I don't like photobucket, so I guess this will mean paying for Pro to keep the service?

What happens to my Flickr account?

Early next year, your @xtra.co.nz will no longer log you in to your Flickr account. If you want to keep using Flickr, you'll need to create a new free Yahoo ID then visit the transfer page to move your Flickr account to the new Yahoo Identity. It's a good idea to do this now.

If you have some photos on Flickr but don't regularly use it, now's also a good time to download any photos you want to keep.

I got the same error. Flickr pro is one reason I decided to use Spark and just signed up to a 12 month contract. So this is quite annoying that we will lose this service, and will go onto the free one. Looks like it is $50 US per year. I would rather they stayed with yahoos email than lose flickr pro, even though yahoo emails reliability isn't great andI regularly get those popup authentication error boxes. Hopefully they fix this problem.
