The Airbnb we’re at seems to use Vetta, which has also gone done as of a few hours ago. Strange feeling being (almost) completely cut off from the rest of the world!

We lost 2degrees mobile and broadband here in Invercargill just before 11pm.

I rushed out and grabbed a Vodafone prepay SIM and had no mobile data (but did have calls and texts) until about 30 minutes ago.

Super weird being pretty much totally cut off! No phone either as us and everyone we know is on UFB

yitz: Must be the same fibre route severing access for the lower South Island as back in 2014 except there will be a lot more than 1400 UFB this time. Scary to think there remains such poor redundancy. https://netguide.co.nz/story/lower-south-island-fibre-internet-cut-by-farmer https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/farmer-s-mistake-cuts-fibre-internet-to-lower-south-island-6120201

Without knowing their network, it's possible that there was redundant fibre over the inland bridge at Arundel, and that's also been damaged.

Just received:

Spark customers are currently experiencing landline, broadband and mobile outages due to flooding and slips across the South Island affecting our network.

Unfortunately, our technicians have been unable to access these sites due to road closures as a result of extreme weather conditions.

All Spark mobile, landline and broadband customers south of Ashburton are affected. However, mobile phones can still make 111 calls and we encourage people to check on neighbours who may not have access to mobile phones.

Our team are working hard to find alternative solutions to resolve the situation and hope to share an update as soon as possible.

We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience.

yea, one side of the fibre cut (it was dual!) has been restored.

On a side note, these posts are showing with a date of the 7th, not the 8th, just me?
