Go onebill in the past has had its market niche, and if i was reading between the lines I would say that it is here to stay. Look at it from Telecoms view, prepaid cards sellers take a cut, go onebill no third party. also the go onebill is linked to your landline and effectively gets Telecom those customers who have landline services with another provider. Essential go onebill has been and continues to be very popular, it doesnt cost them anything (Telecom) so why would you change it unless you are making it better.

By having no credit that can run out, Go Onebill users are also liable to spend more :)

nzbnw: Advantage of a card is from experience I find them to be more robust as they are mostly inside the machine. A USB modems weak point comes from the USB connection itself if it get's bumped which is highly likely to occur unless you're extremely careful.

I wholeheartedly agree that a card is more robust. I have been very happy with my 595. But here's the rub:

nzbnw: Obviously with a USB modem it's easier to use if you are using multiple machines.

Also if you are thinking of upgrading you’re laptop then that will also require consideration. I don’t think we will see any PCMICA cards (only express if even that), but I could be wrong.

When I first got the 595 card, my wife's laptop and mine both had PCMCIA slots, so it was perfect.

However, her laptop died last year, but mine is still working fine. Her new Toshiba laptop has an ExpressCard slot as they all do now, so the situation has become awkward.

If we both had ExpressCard slots, that is the way I would prefer to go, but USB would solve the immediate problem, and I may end up with a Netbook in future which I believe doesn't have any kind of slot at all, only USB.

For both of these reasons, I think USB is the way I would prefer to go, but obviously, we will have to treat it carefully.

n00dy: If you had one of the new WCDMA t-sticks you can put a XT prepaid sim card in it...

This could be worth a look. Does anyone have a Model No. for such a beast?

Just guessing here http://www.sierrawireless.com/product/compass_885.aspx meets the specs, historically Sierra Wireless and the T Stick performed extremely well

I cant see any major ongoing offer NOT being available on XT. It just wouldn't make any sense, and would be a metric butt-load of bad publicity.

I hate to assume things, but I would say the text offerings will at the very least be the same.

I work in a retail store, stock isn't exactly high on phones last time i checked, not sure if this is due to the obvious launch of new phones or for other reasons.

Just had a look at the specs, and it looks great. If there were any situations where the 885 would be vulnerable to being snapped off, it would be easy to use the included 18" USB extender cable and clip it onto the display of your laptop. This would keep it out of harm's way.

Yeah, that's a thought, but if I'm going to spend extra money, it may as well go towards a new device which can be used way into the future, rather than on my existing card which is in the twilight years of its usefulness.

Also, if I end up getting a Netbook to replace my existing laptop, that won't have any ExpressCard slot either, so I'll be back to square 1...

I guess it will all depend on how expensive the 885 is likely to be. We're only 13 days from launch now, so I'm happy to wait for "all to be revealed". In the meantime, I have some idea of the options available.

Been there done that and although it was a good stop gap measure once I switched to a dedicated device just didnt look back, the current t-stick is nice and small but the perfect sollution has already been mentioned, inbuilt 3g in the laptop, in goes my sim and yippee, I can even make a phone call from it using the mic and speakers, wonder if video calling will work via the cam?? hmmm

You mean like the Dell Mini 9 that Vodafone are selling that does 850+2100?

And not the 900 network that Vodafone have?

Perfect device for Telecom if you buy online from Vodafone
