An interesting side note, due to my ill fortune around the phone (I also got a parking ticket when I took the phoen back lol), 4 friends have stated that that won't be joining the XT as a result after hearing my situation. they were all humming and harring (? think thats the way to spell it) and decided against joining up. Small fry yes but the solidarity was nice. :-)

Ok, the thing is, the supplier offers to the retailer the OBF. (out of box failure). As such, it is no big deal for the retailer to offer a new handset. The problem the retailer faces is to prove to the supplier that it is OBF. In your case, this is quite obvious. I can still see no reason for the retailer to offer you a loan phone after only a few days use. I have replaced many phones, some after 14 days. I think from memory, there was a dodgy batch of this model.
I would say take the loaner back and ask for a new phone! And while you are at it, get them to pay the parking ticket! I am using a P1i, a great phone. I also used a C702 M600i and the horrible V800. All of these phones worked well. I prefer the P1 to my N95. The only one which would sway me would be the 5800. Might have to wait for that one!

REceived a follow up from Telecom themselves.

Basically its a store issue and at their discretion as to whether the phone is replaced or sent for repair (after 2-3 days this is laughable).

So I'm stuck till the phone gets back, at which point I will be complaining extremely to the manager of the store.

All I can say is if you want a XT phone in Palmerston North, stay away from the store in the plaza and purchase elsewhere, my story says it all.
