HSDPA and EV-DO are at early stages and both still have along way to go. How much speed does the average consumer need or even business user. Customers don't need 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 Mbps to look at the herald, geekzone or trademe website or download 50k or 500k emails.
Agreed. I'm a heavy Internet user, but I'm quite happy with the 500kpbs that I get at the moment on Woosh.
If Vodafone want a slice of the mainstream broadband market, then they'll need to focus on price more than anything else. On a technical level, I'd be more than happy to use Vodafone's existing 3G network as my only Internet connection, but not at a cost of $149+GST for a 1Gb traffic cap.
Network coverage overall is pretyy good in Cities with Telecom but as earlier in thread i found several key places Telecom have left off footprint where the opposition have put new sites in populated or revenue generating areas. North Beach Area is now well covered with GSM and WCDMA does work close to micro sites. Telecom has coverage but patchy and their is a need for a site on the edge of the forest like Voda have done.
The Tai Tapu one is really bizare as it's got some of the richest people in Canty living their and the closest 027 site is Lincoln or Halswell. Voda have the site now on the hill east of the town ship smart thinking. I heard Telecom are looking at 12 months before building here.
2 areas that need some attention that i know of.
Mid Canty needs serious attn in Mayfield as well, Voda have a tower on Surray hills and some of my Farm automation clients are changing off 025 - 021
