So the Telstra modifications to the ROM are minor, as far as I can tell. There is a single button in the default music app that has a bigpond logo (bottom right in playback view), and the sms app has a 'send-A-card' button under the new message button in the all messages view. Haven't noticed anything else so far...
like flashing a generic ROM, this also requires a gold card. as far as i can tell, making a gold card requires access to PSAS, which is 30 euro. i'm still undecided as to whether it's worth it or not, but would be keen to hear from anybody who has managed to create a cold card post- PSAS becoming a paid app (there was previously a web form on the revskills website that did the trick, but has since been replaced with a link to the PSAS page).
I love the phone. Had an iPhone 3g before this, and can't see me going back. I make a few more typos in this keyboard compared to the iphone, and the android marketplace is still some way behind apple's app store, but it's an awesome phone any way you look at it. Both those 'issues' will sort themselves out eventually I'm sure. Otherwise, phone feels good in the hand and won't need a case, the speed is incredible and this screen is beautiful.
One of my biggest grievances with the iPhone was the continued omission of AVRCP and apple's stance on flash. There is no reason whatsoever for apple to not include AVRCP and, whatever your opinion about the viability of the technology, flash is everywhere and should be supported - at least in the mean time. And I guess that's one of the benefits of pitching apple. At least my expensive Bluetooth headphones now actually work...
I'm seriously considering purchasing this phone from Mobicity au. The only thing holding me back is i'm not sure if it will be covered under warranty in NZ. I have contacted HTC and they do not recommend that I import the phone for that reason. They also would not say when/if the phone would be officially released in NZ.
I might end up calling MobiCity but if I do need the phone serviced under warranty, will I need to send it to Australia? How will the warranty work? Has anyone had any experience with something like this?

Yes you would have to send it back to Aussie for warranty repair, no doubt. However, they are a reputable store.
just noticed this thread, i brought mine from MobiCity on release day, took about a week to get here.
but yeh NextG version runs perfectly, picked all the apn stuff right off my sim , everything works.
only thing to note about this version of the phone is out of the box gps wont work properly, it still does a good enough job at it to fool people into thinking it's working in stuff such as google maps..but download GPS Test and you'll see what i mean.
well thats what i did anyways. result a clean telstra free, rooted NextG desire ..works perfectly. Had all kinds of trouble prior to that because the avail stock roms out there actually undid the telstra gps fix.
nope .. package just arrived on my doorstep like any other delivery.
just note that the tracking number they give you can be used on nzposts site, and that'll be the only way to track yr delivery once it hits nz. actually it was kinda useless..i sat staring at a "item picked up from brizzy" notification for 5 days untill it actually arrived in nz according to nzpost, then it arrived on my doorstep the next day.
