cokemaster: Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Ferrit basically just an online mall which just refers you to the sellers website when you click 'buy' and as a result won't have much control over prices (unless its a ferrit specific special of course)?

I was under the impression that seeing as it was online, there were specials, and good ones at that.

And just because im interested in the development of an online site like ferrit, that could deal with a substantial share of NZ's online retailing, which I might add, we ALL should be keeping an eye on, that somehow makes me a viral marketer?

yeah ok... the internet is such a cuthroat place.

I didn't see any exclusive ferrit specials, correct if I'm wrong. Care to provide any?

Does Ferrit charge a referrer fee to the retailers for successful sales?

as far as I am aware, ferrit is currently completely free to retailers (to get them onboard, and prove its worth to them - then they can say "righty!!! you get 'x' traffic from us, resulting in approx 'x' sales, this is what we gonna charge ya")

disclaimer: they may not use that exact phrasing...

But wouldnt the logic run, that by providing a free service to retailers that would push prices down?
Which is good to the consumer which then provides traffic to the retailer..

etc etc?

Just read through the site now, it seems that if you actually sign up to the site, you get special deals and the like. Im not sure if that monetary or not, but I do know that it gives you the option to customize the site to your shopping. Which could come in handy. I mean you cant exactly customize harvey normans site can you?!

Logic - but the service is not going to be free forever, as Telecom said at the time of the launch.

But ferrit is going to keep its pricing low right. It has to do that to keep its customer base.
If telecom makes retailers charge for ferrits usage, then there are two options I forsee...

A : a pull out of retailers

or

B : www.ferrit.co.nz will weed out all the worthless retailers and create a more solid retailer base, wich is continuing the benefit to the NZ buying market.

Hmmm. Whatever views are expressed in these forums may - or may not - be taken by Telecom New Zealand.

What many of us here think about the service may have no impact whatsoever on how they manage the application.

I think in such cases our logic do not apply.

All telecom is doing (to my knowledge) is funding the site, that somehow takes away its validity?

get real! Nz currently dosent have an online shopping portal like ferrit, and its a new start up company. How else is it going to activley get off the ground unless it has corporate backing.

It would be the same if it was backed by orcon, or telstra, or even BNZ.

I think you have to read all posts again.

No one here is saying the site is not valid. No one here is saying that Telecom being the force behind the site invalidates it.

Read the entire thread again.

Lol sorry misunderstood you there in your previous post.

But yeah, i think you've summed it all up pretty well.
Now its conclusion time.

Reading through the thread again, ive come to the conclusion that ferrit is a worthwhile development to the NZ retail marketplace, its still new and somewhat 'inexperiecned' but you cant hold that against it.

Its a worthwhile initiative and im glad to see NZ updating itself in this manner.

Ferrit is a big disappointment. I've followed it's launch with interest, and have visited every week to find....
- you can click through to products that are only available instore, not online (Dick Smith, Modem)
- same old product reviews every week
- prices are poor - I was shopping for a CD online and gave ferrit a whirl. It came back with the most expensive options by far.

I'm a keen online shopper, and I'm fast losing interest in ferrit.

Just on the Ferrit topic, I've looked at the site a few times over the past week and have noticed differences between the pricing on the Ferrit site and the price on the retailers site when you click on 'buy @ retailer'. Telecom need to obviously sort their cr*p out if they really want the site to be taken seriously because at the moment they are in clear breach of the fair trading act.

I noticed this again today when I looked at the site and saw Wild Poppies Roses for $39 listed on the front page. Thinking this was quite a good deal I clicked on the buy now through to the site to see they are infact $55 on the Wild Ferrit site. As we all know pricing of roses goes up at Valentines Day and Ferrit ovbiously does a very poor job of trawling it's retailers sites for pricing changes.
