What do you guys think of www.ferrit.co.nz the new shopping portal hosted and bankrolled by telecom?

So far it looks pretty good to me ive bought some good stuff off it, im keen to see what you guys think about it in respect to trade me and zillion. Is it a competitor?

How can you compare Ferrit with trade me or zillion? The only similairity between both is the fact they are both web sites! They share nothing at all in common.

I rarely use either sites.

While there are some good deals on Trade me... there are a lot of negative sides to it as well. Need I say more?

Ferrit... had a look at it but haven't brought anything through it. Most hardware I buy, I know exactly what I will be getting and what supplier (usually Ascent). Maybe for things in the future like TV tuners I might look at Ferrit for prices but I don't know - the site doesn't make you want to come back and look at more.

Agreed. For electronic stuff, I'd rather go to Ascent or Totallymac.com and, for clothing, I'd rather go to a physical shop so that I can get a decent look at what I'm buying. I can't think of anything else that I could possibly want to buy from Ferrit.

ferrit is nothing similar to trademe. One is an auction, another is a search tool - they don't have e-commerce capabilities yet...

but there is something to be said for a company that is aiming to fill that marketing niche.
It seems to me that they are aiming to be like a "price spy" for the retail world. Now thats not a bad idea.

I was under the impression that they had edged in against trade me, but i was wrong there, they are just as you said a search tool for products. Which i thinks a pretty handy idea. And they have a quirky mascot guy from norway :P www.ferrither.co.nz he reminds me of Ali G :P

It's a rip off of Mahir Cagri "I Kiss You"... This hoax website has been on the Internet for ages and it was a hit five or six years ago.

Stupid, it's just "sponsored" retailers. nothing but a scam really to sucker profit margins from retailers. it's NOT trade, trademe is an auction site with private sellers, Ferrit is just a virtual "mall", a tired old conept from 1999 that they have tried to revamp.. nice try.

I thought that "ikissyou" site wold be long gone.

i fail too see how that would be the case, seeing as I was under the impression that ferrit was
selling on behalf of the retailers!

Why would good companies like Noel Leeming and Apple place products on there otherwise?
Surely having another portal for online goods is good for these companies and ultimately good for new zealand customers, is it not increasing market share and competition, which is what is going to help push prices down?

Comparing it too an online mall seems rather harsh, if thats the case then what is trade me? An online Salvation Army?

Well that site is pretty horrible for a start. Not exactly user friendly. Although i assume its essentially the same idea, but ferrit seems to be more like a portal than stufffonsale. Although it seems like a tack on from www.stuff.co.nz which isnt very proffesional.

Theres practically no difference between trademe.co.nz and ebay.co.nz ethier....

Ferrir indeed does not have e-commerce funtionality, and is just a "window" for those on-line retailers. It actually has replaced the XtraMSN Shopping channel now.

Being an "online mall" is no harsh - a mall has a single brand, but each individual store has its own practices - exactly like ferrit.co.nz.

Trademe is an auction site - like eBay. Not Salvation Army, but more like a flea market.

Ok i think we are becoming a little sidetracked here.

We can agree that www.ferrit.co.nz is a shopping portal for NZ retail. Which in my view is going down a good road for NZ bussiness.

What id like to turn the discussion too, is its place in the online e-market.
