I must admit that when I looked at the maps a few nights back (when my last post was made) I was rather taken aback as to how there were some rather large holes in the exchange coverage. I presume the reason is that historic rollout of street cabling has meant that cross connect cabinets were not deployed as extensively as in most other areas, leaving a cost barrier to deploy cabinets now.

I have noted in Wellington there are a number of locations where street distribution cables have been pulled back and extended to create new locations to site Wisper cabinets where existing cross connects did not exist, I presume the cost of doing this is quite high.

RedJalapeno: Neither of them have master filters, however is there really any point for naked adsl that definitely doesn't have wiring issues? I can see the benefit for Orcon line

Probably no point for the naked adsl line especially if it's just one jack coming off the 2nd line?

If there are a few jacks daisy chained off that line it might be worthwhile, even if they don't have anything plugged in currently.

Nope no daisy chain, just direct line to router. I found out why pings are so high to everything, apparently Snap hasn't actually completed the Auckland handover yet, so my data is going Auck-Chch-Auck before it goes overseas. Pretty sure I asked them if they had a handover point in Auck before I signed up and they said yes...

i have a rant aswell, my cabinet MTL/M was migrated and there were not enough DSLAM's in the cabinet for my number and many others, and that cabinet is suppose to hold 300odd phone numbers and the chorus tech said currently theres only 100odd numbers migrated to the cabinet, so i have to wait until they add more dslams into cabinet and im stuck with 1mbit/900kbs sync which degraded from 5mbit/900kbs when they started the migration grrrrr ><
