sbiddle:  why would any telco in their right mind offer 1000 minutes of free calling to customers on another network? They may as well just offer a website handing out free $50 notes to anybody who wants one.

Vodafone offers this with NZBestmate.

No they don't.

Vodafone give you the ability to nominate a single number of any other network to call, providing you're giving them at least $45 per month for a plan.

Prepay Smart is $35 per month and comes with a free NZbestmate.

In terms of actual cost for the telco, it doesn't make any diff if you are calling one number off-net for 1000 minutes or multiple numbers off-net for 1000 minutes.

Did I say anywhere that it made any difference to the actual cost of delivering the service?

It makes no difference to the cost, but from a business point of view it makes a massive difference, and if you can't see how obvious that is then there clearly is no point discussing this further.

Quite clearly if a telco was giving away 1000 minutes of anytime any network calls providing you gave them $4 per week their network would be flooded with new subscribers. They'd also be losing a $hedload of money.

You stated - "why would any telco in their right mind offer 1000 minutes of free calling to customers on another network?"

I simply advised that Vodafone does.

No they don't.

For a fee they offer 1000 minutes to a customer on another network. Customer. Not customers. The extra s makes a big difference!

Vodafone do offer 1000 minutes of free calling to customers on other networks. Customers - with an S.

You can pick any other network customer you like.
