10.2 update enabling 4G has been released, I got a notification and installed it last night. Definitely unexpected so soon. Good work!

Was at the all whites game last night tried uploading the obligatory Instagram post on 3G and it failed every time, so I turned on 4G and bam it went first time.

Probably due to 10000 other people trying to do similar on 3G at the same time as you.
Hopefully there will be 5G by the time everybody is using 4G.

As a side note, still waiting for HTC One official update to get 4G properly, pinning hopes on a 4.3 update at the same time.

HTC One (in the UK & North America anyway) due to get 4.4/KitKat "from end of January". (So, sometime 1Q/2014). You might get a NZ release of 4.3 by then.

I think I'll be GPe or at least global edition by then. Still my phone is 4G via a hack so I just hope the next time Telecom sells an HTC phone capable of 4G that it works straight away.

The last few games at the stadium have been both Telecom and Vodafone choke badly. Vodafone actually worked very well last night, I was out on the field and was getting 7-8Mbps down and ~1Mbps up on Vodafone 3G with a non DC device.

Telecom LTE worked very well there, clearly there were very few people on the network.

Got my 4G SIM, I'm getting 1 bar of signal near the intersection of Willis St & Lambton Quay where I work, so no real benefit over 3G. If I actually go stand on the corner, 50m line-of-sight to Telecom HQ, then I get 2 bars. Will stick to WCDMA for a few weeks rather than waste battery I think. Be interesting to see if it helps the 3G dead spot near the Parliament end of Lambton Quay though.

On 1 bar I got 3 tests between 28 and 38 mb/s down and roughly 10 up. So may be a factor but the Citylink server has always given me the lowest speeds of any nz server. Sometimes Sydney is faster. And it's the closest one to me.

As already mentioned, manually select the Telecom NZ Speedtest servers (use the closest one to you). I was involved in putting in the Telecom speedtest servers and know they are not congested in any way plus the path from our mobile network is obviously going to give LTE the best chance to shine.

As a comparison - I get 15/7 with 35ms (DLM5 due to recent internal interference - don't ask!) to the Citylink server from my 42/10 VDSL connection in Chch, while I get 40/9.7 at 33ms to the Telecom Speedtest server in Wgtn.
