[My questions are these:

1) Is it alright that my dad has Vodafone broadband for himself and I have Telecom Broadband in my room. (I think I have to required switches/filters etc) or isn't I possible to have two broadband plans in one house.

2) Will I have to pay for home calling with Telecom? Or can I just use the broadband connection with Telecom (and pay an extra $10 per month) with the big time plan

You will need the 2nd broadband on another physical line. Thus, you will need to connect a new line with Telecom, and incur the landline and broadband costs.

Tony, what's the word on the peak time latency problem affecting gamers on Australian servers from 6pm-11pm most days? Is it being looked at will it be fixed?

Basically right now at midnight I can tracert and ping Aussie servers and get ~33ms or less but from 6pm-11pm it completely blows out to 300ms.

Gaming uses hardly any sustained bandwidth by design, most FPS games use UDP rather than TCP/IP. It seems the management rules aren't quite right.

How much is the landline costs normally? Will you guve me an estimate cost on how much I would
have to pay each month with the Big Time Broadband Plan and Landline Costs.

no, that is just an extension of the same line. Telecom need to come and run a second line into the house and then that second line would need to be run to the jack that you are talking about, if that is where you want it. According to their website they will send someone out to check how much work is required to get the second line into the house and if the costs are not acceptable you won't be charged for the callout.
line rental for the primary line is like 45 per month? so probably similar for the second line?
then broadband on top of that $59.

Lose the vodafone broadband, will be cheaper, why cant your dad use telecom broadband? you can share the connection and costs :) and its unlimited.. convince your dad :)

No, because most likely it is connected to the same phone line as the rest of your house.

You need access to a phyiscally different pair of wires (these may be provided in the existing cabling, though, and just need to be connected up)

Non-system disk or disk error. Replace and strike any key when ready.

I have tried to convince my mum to convince my dad that she would be able to
watch youtube all the time without worrying about usage.

The reason my dad won't go to Telecom because the mobile and landline deal he gets with Vodafone Broadband and also we had lots of problems with Telecom a while back when we were on a 30GB Plan, not Go Large Plan. Our connection would always disconnect randomly.

Great news guys. My mum convinced my dad to get the big time plan. My dad told me that Vodafone Broadband is using our fax number line so I can use the home number line for telecom broadband apparently.

Will this be easy to set up? The router will be set up in my room as I have the phone jack.

Also suffering form this and it only seems to have started the last few weeks. Not just during those hours, been like that the last hour or two for me this afternoon, and I actually had it kick in at around 1am one night (from sub 200ms pings to US servers to 500ms in a heartbeat).

Tis highly annoying.

Is anyone on this plan able to visit torrentbytes.net?
I havent been able to access it for about a week.
DNS is fine and I am able to browse to the site using certain proxies and from other ISPs connections

Same happens to me, Around 5-6pm my ping Slowly gets higher until the point its 500Ms to aussie Severs never use to do this but it kicked in about 2 weeks ago for me was hoping that gaming wasn't effected by this plan .. but it seems it does otherwise this plan would be perfect! can view that site fine

I'm on the Old go Large Plan, I stayed when everyone jumped and has been great. My DSL line is off a cabinet but is not an ADSL2+ according to telecoms system until July 2010 !!!! They now want me to move to the BT plan saying it is great for ADSL2+ and will only cost me an extra $10.

Basically they'll swap me if I don't do anything and want to charge me an extra $10 for what seems a worse service than i have today. I haven't called them yet to complain, but wanted to know your thoughts first.

Also has anyone else got one of those letters ??

They are closing down an old plan, they are not offering any 128K upload plans anymore. There is nothing you can do about it they simply won't be offering any 128k upload options anymore.

They have given you sufficient notice and they aren't under any obligation to offer the same plan forever at the same price.

Big Time is $10 more for FS upload ie: whatever your line can sync at given distance from the exchange and line noise and the ability to get interleaving turned off, it's probably with it imo. I would not expect download sync speed to change much.

You can always change to a different provider or choose a different plan if you don't want to go on to Big Time.

Complaining won't really do much except maybe let you release some steam :).
You can't expect ISP's to never change their plans, things change, you didn't sign a contract with them saying they could never change anything did you?
They are offering you the choice of paying an extra 10 and getting fullspeed upstream or you can get moved to one of their normal plans with caps for the same price.

10 dollars isn't much, 59 for an unlimited full speed plan isn't too bad, especially for this country :).

Just to add to this..

The most effective way to let your feelings be known to a company is to walk away and let them know the reason. Having said that, I think you will be struggling to find a plan as good as this on another ISP currently. I came from Orcon after having been with orcon for years because of this plan and the fact that I despise the way telecom have acted in this country and still are really with their dodgey business practices but yeah.. i am turning a blind eye to that because the plan is pretty good :).

I understand that plans change, it's the $120 a yr xtra (ha) that I have to pay telecom for roughtly the same service. (Rather have that in my pocket) I get 6M ish sync speed on DSL as the cabinet is only 200 mtrs away. so I'm happy with my current plan, cost & Service :)

The only reason for not moving is because no other ISP offered the unlimited download plan.

I'm a large user 50+ gig a month so I like the umlimited download, it's just gonna cost me $10 more a month :(
