Well these new caps might be the thing to get me back to telecom after couple of years with xnet.
Xnet bill, on torrential plan, is $65 to $80 per month. Lots of GBs lately with many new iOS apps!
Changing to telecom, landline is telecom, will remain so, looks like it will be either
$105 for 120 GB (60 doubled) or
$125 for 160 GB (80 doubled).

Seems like a good deal, am I missing anything?

Cheers.
Joseph

This thread has over complicated things...it's all charged on a "pro-rata" basis.

You get charged a proportion of the monthly fee on your current plan up until the date you change (the rest of the month already paid in advance gets credited) you then get charged the remaining proportion for the rest of the the month (in advance) for the new plan you sign up to. You may also be charged for the next month so you are again a full month in advance but under the new plan.

No you don't get charged twice, and it's all worked out properly.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

clod: Well congratulations, after reading this I'm totally lost. I'm on total home broadband 80 gb- which will go to 160 under new plan. I dont need this so was going to change to the total home 60gb plan just before my rollover date 27th may so that I would then be on the 120gb plan saving myself $20 a month but your saying I would have to pay another month in advance- surely that cant be right as I'm going to a cheaper plan plus I already paid another month in advance when I upgraded about 2 years ago. Arn't I being ripped off?

In your case you would end up with an overall credit because the plan is cheaper.

that's what I would have though before all the nonsense in this thread. ...switch to a cheaper plan for two days, switch back to your old plan again, and you end up with a net saving of a few cents. and not have to wait another month for what's on offer in May.

Which is why I said it was circumstantial and should be assessed on a case by case basis.

does switching from Total Home Broadband 60GB (120GB) to Total Home Broadband 160GB count as 'switching plans' or only as buying additional data for the month?

The online change plan tool has been updated with the new plans so you can just fill out the form online to request the plan change now, mid billing cycle = no problem.

Telecom has always done pro rata billing for their plans, if you don't understand pro rata billing it's simple: If you change 25% of the way through your billing cycle/month you pay 25% of the cost of the plan you had and 75% of cost of the the plan you changed to (the percentages will obviously vary based on when in your cycle you change).

This is regardless of the data you have used and your data is reset to 0 when the plan change is enabled. So actually it's in your interest to use all the data on your current plan before changing plan (go crazy if you can be bothered but note that plan change can take upto 48hrs to be actioned, however mine was about 6hrs).

Additionally if you haven't heard, the customer retention team is offering a loyalty discounts to people who are out of contract at the moment.

I rang 0800 555 322, asked for customer retention team and told them I was looking at the new Snap and Orcon plans and asked if they could do anything.

They offered a $10/month discount straight away, no contact term required OR go on 12 month contract term for which they offered a $15/month discount.

I took the $10 discount preferring to stay out of contract term currently.

My old plan was Total Home Broadband 100GB at $145
My new plan is Total Home Broadband 120GB at $95 ($105 minus loyalty discount)

I'm happy with that and no longer looking at changing ISP (for the time being).

Good work Telecom.
