ALTRON:

So spark is locking out non spark purchased iphones.

If so would that mean if I were on holiday somewhere overseas And wanted to get a local e-sim for my iphone I wouldn't be able to use it because THAT carrier has also locked out non carrier purchased phones?

Or will it be network operator dependent ?

Apart from having two numbers Im struggling to see what the hype is.

"Locked out" is not the correct term here. Spark just haven't finished the work required to support phones bought elsewhere.

Successfully migrated from physical SIM to eSIM, and enjoying the dual SIM capabilities in the XS Max. Will be very handy for roaming. I'm a Spark Digital customer, so no store visit necessary, just asking your account manager nicely to do it for you. :)

iOS support for dual SIM seems pretty impressive. You can choose what network you use for voice and data (separate settings for each), you can also choose which network is used for making calls on a contact by contact basis. On the dialler you can choose which network the current manually dialled call is made with, same with text messages. You get a small selector which allows you to choose the network.

You can also name them anything you like, say 'Work' or 'Personal', I've named mine 'Spark' and 'Vodafone'.

@waikariboy I can help with that one.

When you go to make a call - You get to pick between the two lines (You can name them whatever you want)

Same for a SMS, however does pay to note you can only have Facetime/iMessage activated on one of the lines

Inbound calls will also show an icon as to what line calls are coming in on.

Looks very well done on iOS, exactly what I have been waiting for to merge work and personal number............which makes it even more annoying that non spark sourced devices can't use it!🤦

Sounds like the same way as Android has done dual SIM for years.

It doesn't do it as well as Android, I have a dual sim iphone xr (from china so 2 nano sim slots) and have been using it for 3 months.

I have found that when you ring someone from contacts you need to assign which number to use at the contact level before calling them, otherwise it will use the master sim you have assigned for calls.

Would be nice if it did pop up asking before it called the number.

My cheapo Android has a option in SIM settings to either select one SIM for all phone calls or 'Ask me'. Perhaps have a look in your settings for something like this?

As does both my top of the line (when purchased) mate 20 and LG v20...

It's built into native android I'm sure...

LG have a ui element for quick switching in the drop down menu.

I think I’d prefer it at contact level rather then as a pop up as on my dual sim work phone as I keep forgetting to select a sim to call from.

I think most people would prefer to set it per contact, as they'll be personal vs work contacts. However, I don't begrudge anyone that wants an option; not everyone's requirements are identical.

You’re absolutely correct there, I have an XS Max so this suits me perfectly.

What a disaster. Guy in store checked ID, checked phone software version and some other things but he could not figure out how to initiate the transfer process to esim within his CRM. He rang another store and they didn’t know how to do it either. Now waiting for a call back tomorrow, apparently Spark don’t have a cell centre available to support the retail staff.
