I was checking out the FAQs for your point around changing device - they have in the FAQ page - (Sorry I'm new so not allowed to post a link :( ) this info:

I have changed my device, can I reinstall the app? What happens to my voicemails?
If you change devices, follow the steps below:

  1. The app will NOT download your current custom greeting and old voicemails to your new device, you'll need to record a new custom greeting and save important voicemails from the ‘share’ feature.
  2. Delete Spark Voicemail from your old device.
  3. Install and activate the app on your new device.

So at least they did indicate what happens, but would be a good feature for them to support in the future maybe, possibly a privacy concern on device change perhaps?

Installed, setup, paying for subscription, set up call forwarding...

Just found out the reason I haven’t had any voicemail is neither the old system, nor the new system were connected...

disconnected call forwarding and reconnected it... now voicemail only goes to the old one...

I guess I’m just doomed for my spark account not to have anything working easily.

cbay996:

I checked out the page links that were posted above, it now looks like Spark have made this available for any of their pay monthly mobile customer to download, no waiting to register!!

Have gone in and downloaded and activated - I like it - so much better to be able to get the voicemail sent to you.

Experimented with a few calls and the transcription is generally pretty good - a couple where the odd word wasn't quite right- but all in all a value add to be able to read it, and then listen to the audio on my phone immediately without having to dial in to get the message.

I wonder if they will start to promote it or just leaving it a bit quiet and see if it gets any attention.

Correct. This is a early access so we can get early feedback ahead of the full product coming to market.

If your having issues with your spark vm I can have the team check that out... Sounds possibly like something in provisioning had gone wrong long back for ya...

Thank you, I have about 3 hours to kill tomorrow while the car gets a new remote programmed. So I’ll visit my favourite local spark store and have another chat with them. They got the last issue fixed, so I’m sure they’ll be able to  sort things this time.

Perfect. Best of luck.
It's kinda a backend sorta thing which is why I offer I normally avoid mobile as its not my space.. Although voicemail is..

Sing out if it doesn't get solved :)

Why can’t Spark just support Visual Voicemail natively? Why does it have to be a separate app?

I would say "This is a new feature that Apple has introduced, can the carrier provide it as Apple intended?"

Right, in which case that's not something i can answer.

but i will take a step back from the product itself and ask, if you were to be paknsave, and wanted to offer Electric car chargers... would you go with something uniform or go with a unique build that would only cover 24% of your marketshare?

I mean in the default 'Phone' apps of iOS and Android. Visual Voicemail has been part of iOS since 2007 and Android since 2015. Building a separate app is a bit like Spark building a separate app for making phone calls, rather than users being able to just use the built-in Phone app.

See in theory great idea. The gotcha you have is while yes apple is the same, almost every android device vendor roles their own special blend.

I do get the idea and I'm not saying it wouldn't come on board. But just trying to give a broader view.

The product folk are closely watching here and loving the feedback though geekzone at its best once again!

FWIW, this is something I greatly miss in NZ (vs UK where I had visual voicemail). I'm on iOS and realise that there's a huge group that are on Android, and that Android is more complicated. But it's a genuinely brilliant feature. At the moment I don't use voicemail at all because I can't face having to phone and listen through when most messages are rubbish. Being able to see the caller for each message on screen and just hit the play button for that message was wonderful. If I could get it in NZ, I'd switch providers just for that feature.
