Unfortunately not quite a good enough deal to entice me off the Unplan Netflix Wireless plan we're on currently, once you factor in the loss of Netflix and the $10 lifetime credit we've got (since only the 4G plans are available). Could be more enticing in the future if RCG towers get 5G (fingers crossed?), although imagine that will be a few years off yet.

I pay $58 monthly for my vodafone fibre 100/20. Rather than sticking with one streaming service or having them all, I tend to binge watch and rotate between various streaming platforms (so may stick with one for 3 months). So, I'll stay with Voda.

$70 = 50Mbs

what year are we in ?
I would have though 2/3 that price would be a good price for 50Mbs
Is it just NZ , are (slow) internet prices still this bad overseas ?

Best price is perhaps Contact , $60 for 100Mbs
Spark must know that by offering up new plans, its a trigger for customers to start shopping around

Spark doesn't have a power product to cross-subsidise their broadband. Most of the price is actually from the wholesale costs, which no provider has any control over (excl. FWB).

Contact? You do know their support is crap, right? There are many threads on here warning people away from the power companies for internet. Price shouldn't be your sole determining factor when picking an RSP.

No good saving $20 a month if you can never get through when you need to (also applies to My Republic).

Practical question... If you have a Netflix account already and go for this offer with Spark, do they create a new Netflix account for you or is it somehow applied to your existing account?

And if you want one of the higher tier options like more simultaneous viewers, can you pay the difference?

They provide you with a link which takes you to your account section on Netflix and asks you to OK changing the billing provider to be Spark.
If you want to change to UHD version of Netflix - on MySpark you can add this for an extra $5 which equates to the same as Netflix charges.

My changeover is meant to happen tomorrow morning. The Spark Smart Modem should be all good to use for this eh?

Huawei HG659b or Spark Smartmodem or Smartmodem 2 perform perfectly on Fibre Max (or below obviously).

I presume that if you are on unplan full speed fibre plan there should be no degradation in performance? Its just a plan change right? I get 960 down and 500 up at the moment.

If I am currently with spark fibre (100/20) and move to a faster plan will I have to change any modem (Archer C7) settings?

Aaand the prices come down even more, good to see some competition in the telecommunications sector but some very thin margins indeed...

On reflection I think this is designed to get rid of all of Spark's "unplan" customers, which as a post paid plan cannot be helpful from a business cashflow point of view.

Unplan may have had an advantage in the past to attract low usage customers with a lower price point, but as data demands grow most customers now will be clocking up more than the 120GB top tier..

Having customers on "pay in advance" is much more beneficial from a business point of view, and as time goes on it is a significant advantage as customers transition off copper to Fibre or wireless...
