Mmmmm Vodafone are good like that, supporting the competition by selling devices that work better on their network than their own . . .

Been there done that and although it was a good stop gap measure once I switched to a dedicated device just didnt look back, the current t-stick is nice and small but the perfect sollution has already been mentioned, inbuilt 3g in the laptop...

Yeah, I agree.  Like many others I started with a tethered phone as a modem but it runs out of battery when constantly in use for data, and it's a lot more faffing around each time you want to connect/disconnect whereas a Data Card is just so easy.

Indeed, having inbuilt 3G in the laptop would be the perfect solution if it was just for me, but my wife and I both have laptops and we both need to use Mobile Broadband when away from home for short trips, sometimes together, sometimes on our own.

So, even though it's not the ideal device in terms of robustness, I think the Compass 885 with USB will be the best fit for our situation unless someone comes up with something better.

Thanks for the input from everybody who made suggestions.  Roll on May 13 Smile
