Damager: I've emailed Brightpoint NZ and HTC NZ re if I buy a TP2 from aussie, can I drop it into the local agent which is Telegistics for repairs.

Telecom don't use Brightpoint for any phone distribution. Telecom NZ (Telegistics) will not honor an Aussie TP2 warranty.

I forgot you're Telecom nzbnw! Should've just asked you instead. Good to know. Do Telegistics just honour Telecom repairs, or can HTC NZ ask them to do a warranty repair for an Aussie TP2?

Yes only Telecom repairs. I guess they *could* in theory, but in practice they won't. There will likely be different ROM versions and customisations they won't have for the Telstra device, so that makes them hard to service.

Telecom retail stores apparently may not be getting them for a week or so, and then only a few of them. And they couldn't negotiate the price with any sort of trade in, other than the standard plan discounts.

So, got a 900/2100 version which is pending number porting to Vodafone. The total of the 12 month plan + hardware was the same price as without a plan on Telecom.

And for the record, the phone is even better than expected ;)

I doubt there are any customisations, as with most phones on XT. Telstra on the other hand...

Right, I've had a play with the TP2! It's great! Exactly what i expected it to be and more. I look forward to getting one next week.

The sales guy said to me "I'll put this one away for you unless It's sold before then" I said.. "No. I'll have a brand new one from an unopened box" :D

No customizations at all which im happy about also!

Most definitely.

It does Quad-Band GSM and Vodafone's 3G 2100. But i wouldnt buy a Telecom TP2 to use specifically on Vodafone.

If you wanted to use the Telecom TP2 for both XT and Voda, that's fine.

If you wanted the TP2, but were only going to use it on Voda, then you're best to get the T7373 model which is Quad-band GSM and 3G 900/2100.

Ive been using one of these for a couple of weeks now, the phone was better than expected in some area's and came up very short in others,

Cons - Menu and setting structure is terrible, and these add/remove icons seem way more effort than there worth and it is very hard to find specific items.

If you happen to be using the phone while its open and drop it, then there goes all your money cause this phone is weak. Its also massive, the size of a old CDMA harrier pocket pc you would expect waay more than what you got.

Pros - Keyboard is awesome, massive screen, a few other things that can be considered novelty, and in that sense kind of pointless, when looking for pros im trying to think of things this phone does better than the others but cant think of much, to be honest the whole phone seems like a novelty, good for bragging rights I guess.

One great thing is the email clients are pre-defined in the phone, which makes setting up email very easy as this seems to be an absolute mission on some of the XT phones.

That's a fair enough assessment!

Cons - I've been using the TouchFlo for a little while now so I'm actually comfortable with it now. Your issues could perhaps be easily be sorted with a customized ROM or waiting for the WM6.5 official upgrade?

I'll try not to drop mine when i get it :-) I used to have a harrier also and i dont think it's anywhere near as big as that. I was suprised, I thought it would actually be bigger. Maybe I've got big hands!

How have you had the phone a couple of weeks? The phone was available from Telecom from 6 Oct 2009. Or did you purchase a Telstra TP2or are you using the generic 900/2100 version and on XT via the 2100 frequency?

Still weighing up purchasing a Telstra version costing less than $1000 and inc shipping to NZ and a custom rom flashed to it already to get rid of the Telstra garbage on it.

I love the keyboard but very dissappointed that it doesnt have soft keys or an "ok" key. Annoying having to press the screen while in keyboard mode.

It copied contacts to phone which caused duplication (sim & phone contacts) but reading the manual I am supposed to have an option to display just the phone contacts - but it dont work! It might be me so hopefully someone else can find out how to fix this.

Camera quality is mediocre but I dont use phone cameras much anyway.

Confusing text messaging chat programme. It looks like there are 2 different ways of using texts in thread format. One works as expected in order of sent and received but the other puts all the sent texts on top and all the received below.

Call quality is good and the speaker phone works cool by just turning it upside down and automatically in speaker mode. I am hoping it will be clear enough to use in the car but yet to test it.

The tilt is nifty but I doubt I will use it much, it doesnt make that much of a difference when texting but I did use it watching youtube sitting on the table.

It does feel like it takes a long time to turn on and the accelerometer response is slow for some apps but generally opening and closing apps is very fast.

It does look big and an obvious iphone look but in the provided case it didnt feel bulky in my pocket.

I had thought that the Palm pre was the phone for me but with doubts it will get here I am more than happy with the TP2.

Some users of the Telstra TP2 have said that when they enter their serial number, it doesnt work. Perhaps the carrier with the 850/2100 model (AT&T, Telstra, Telecom) may require a separate update that isnt available yet.

Can anyone with a Telecom TP2 try thier serial number on the link above? Being the european ROM update, I'd say only the T7373 models can run this update.
