thats hugely excessive, surely it doesnt cost double let alone 4-5 times as much
I suppose knowing it advance helps in a way but for the average user who say takes their phone on holiday they may learn the hard way

To be fair he does recieve a lot of incoming calls.

Has anyone heard an update yet on Telecom's 'revised' pricing for CDMA 1X/EVDO roaming to Aus? I saw quote from Kevin Kendrick (Telecom Head of Mobile) saying that the $19.95 per MB would obviously be revised after Vodafone's announcement of $10.00 per MB.

Nothing announced yet. Telecom can move quickly sometimes, but I would expect end of week for this...

I work for Telstra and was told that it is still in Testing, CDMA voice is working but 1x is being tested.

1x-EVDO Speeds in Australia are 300-600kbps in metro and major regional with 1xRTT around 90kbps

Interesting... Telecom New Zealand actually sent out a press release on this (Telecom New Zealand enables EV-DO roaming in Australia).

It has been in testing from Telstra to TNZ for a while and I know the billing is always the drama with high speed data roaming so maybe it is working and our roaming people have not told us yet....BTW, does TNZ offer CDMA Blackberry yet? The BB7250 has an EVDO modem in it.....

I have seen them (CDMA Crackberries) floating around the web, but have not heard of any plans to introduce them here.

Data roaming has been working to Oz for ages but not officially, and not being billed either. All my sources including a Telecom internal release and the public Telecom International Roaming Helpdesk (0800492120 option 1) tell us that EVDO roaming & billing is working just fine now.

Thx Disenchanted, make the most of the free use! Telstra charges $74.95 for 500MB (up and down) on DO - what does TNZ charge?

Also. I have a CDMA Blackberry and the firmware currently disables DO and operates RTT only - new firmware is due out in a couple of months.

What sort of modems do you use in NZ - have you seen the Maxon Ethernet DO modem, emulates ADSL (PPoE) and they have a little matchbox sized USB one too....

I've seen the little matchbox one here, on Telecom, last week. The one that emulates PPoE will be used in our Geekzone Party to share the connection to the people there.

Kewl - I also hear that Cisco are releasing a router that will have PCMCIA and Sierra 580 drivers, roll on Rev-A!

TNZ is $199 for 500MB up/down but that should change ver soon as Vodafone have just changed their data pricing to $149 for 1GB. 3G is going through a big shake up this year in NZ.

I put a solution into a customer last year with a dozen or so Maxon modems, i think they were USB (I was not involved with the technical side of that job). Had 4 fail in the first week, but after that they have been perfect, no more faults at all.

Free use is over as of last week or so (unless the Telstra user/pass still works for us, which i doubt)
