quickymart: Import duties (if there are any) won't be that quick. I got mine in the mail two weeks after receiving the phone.

Hm I guess that's better than them holding the phone until you pay the duties.

I ordered my Desire from MobiCity on Saturday.. Got an e-mail that said it's delayed and the ETA is the 17th.. I don't know if that means it'll get to me on the 17th or it'll get to them on the 17th..

I am guessing most likely they will receive it on the 17th, so maybe a week after that you will receive it.

Then again you might be lucky and not have to pay anything. But just be aware it *may* happen :)

quickymart: Strange, I was charged a Customs/Import duty.

http://www.customs.govt.nz/importers/Private+importers/Customs+charges.htm

Have another look  " Telephones, Cellular     0"   No import duty just GST..

You were robed if you paid duty...

This was in 2002, so the rules probably changed since then.

UnitedWeFall: Hey guys, quick question which I can't find the answer to.

I'm in the market to buy an HTC Desire. The versions listed on PriceSpy will not work on the XT network because they run on the wrong band (or so i've read).

However I noticed that Telstra Australia sell the Desire, and according to Wikipedia, the Telstra Aus network is the same band (850mhz WCDMA) as Telecom XT, so that means the Desire they sell should work on XT.

Can anyone confirm this?

Cheers.

according to image no 6 when following the link, it says "Unlocked for telstra & telecom NZ"  so i guess the answer is yes

There is a per-item customs fee of $24.75, but I believe they'll only apply it if they process the item for GST. Some items have an additional fee on top of GST as well as per the link quickymart posted. "No duties in NZ" does not equal "No duties on cellphones".

I've got a customs number and they still held the last 2 things until I'd paid them, yet they send bills to people without accounts?! Makes little sense to me.

Well got the phone today and it's incredible :D

However I do have 1 major issue... There's a LOT of Telstra crap and other pre-installed stuff on the phone and i've only got about 100mb of storage left which isn't going to be enough for apps.

Does anyone know how to delete the crap Telstra puts on the phone?

Needs Android 2.2 in order to install stuff to the SD card.. (Or the A2SD hack.. requires rooting it)
