cafeg: I must have been in a good area with xtra/bigtime as I was getting upto 200kbps transfer rate during the day on torrents, during the unshaped hours it was upto 1.2 Mbps transfer rate. Files sometimes came down at around 850 kbps even during peaktimes.

200 Kbps is not really fullspeed unlimited ...

I think you mean KBps not kbps

Has anyone received an email from Telecom recommending a plan to go to after Big Time?

All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.

Not a single one, other than the email about the plan being withdrawn.

When is the cut off?

I was thinking of going to Orcon naked as they have upped the purple plan from 15GB to 26GB for $64.99.
I can always get a skype-in phone number.  As we get maybe 2 phone calls a month on our landline and make less than 5 out so not really interested in a phone service as such.

I am with Telecom since I arrived in NZ and have experienced more forced plan changes than in the two other cities I part time live in as well. How come that when I am in San Francisco and Amsterdam there is never an issue with broadband, speeds and downloads? And in New Zealand the whole time? My thoughts are that there used to be a monopolist that has been sitting on its backside for too long, made big profits for their shareholders and now that they have to do work for their dollar, they squeeze it over and over out of the home user.

BTW I never received any email from Telecom, but tis probably beacuse they have never ever sent me one inthe first place, even though I informed them over and over again that I am using a gmail address because that is just so much more handy and better.

In a 1on1 emailing with smeone within Telecom modern torrent technology was blamed. They cnnot monitor those I am told. Yeah, tell that to your mother. Telecom can see who is downloading like crazy and when you cannot disconnect that person immediately, you can do it the day, week after.

No Telecom has scraped BT because they want to squeeze more money out of the guy and girl in the street who already enduring so much in these tough times.

Vodafone's ultimate pack is worth a another look too. They've just announced an increase in the basic allowance from 20 to 30GB, and with double your data that takes it to, yep you guessed it, 60GB.

Haha from the above post I am assuming Telecom couldn't keep track of the UDP protocol µTorrent introduced a while back. That is interesting to know :)

As for the WorldNet plan I have just received this e-mail in regards to a sales enquiry:

Thanks for your inquiry.
We do not have any plan to withdraw this plan at the moment.
Regards

So I am not sure whether no not they will be keeping this plan or not as there was a conflicting message earlier :S

for most of the customers who use BT is they dont want to receive any bill shock becoz of the excess usage.

if Telecom is unable to manage the traffic,
why dont they adpot the BB plan like iiNet in oz to sperate the peak and off-peak usage?

e.g.
Peak: 9am-1am, off-peak 1am-9am

Peak 80G + off-peak 80G $99.95
peak 100G + off-peak 100G $129.95
etc etc

I doubt Telecom will ever go down this path. They market their plans to the masses (which makes sense) and those sort of plans are too complicated to someone who doesn't know their Megabytes from their Gigabytes.

I do agree though. Even if they categorized them differently like they do with their business plans.

Well please let it be over HERE at least. If you have a problem with Telecom then show us some alternatives. I started this thread to get some in sights into what everyone else is offering and whether they are quality products.
