tardtasticx: yeh if you read it, it says "no extra to pay, nothing to sign", so they are legally obliged to go with this.

It actually says "There's nothing extra to pay, nothing to sign and no obligation to keep it after this time.", i.e. after the 12 months.  Is there an obligation to keep it before the 12 months expires?  I'd have to read the offer T&Cs to know, but I wouldn't be surprised.  I guess they would expect you wouldn't want to leave since the deal is so good.

With regards to the asking nicely idea, they can't make you stay with them so all they can do is ask you to.  That's not to say that if you don't, there won't be some penalty.  You'll certainly lose your treat, maybe that's all, maybe not.

I think what they mean by "no obligation to keep it after this time." meaning onces its finished you dont have to keep paying for the 80GB plan you can go back to the 40 GB plan if thats what you were previously on.

I wonder what happens if you already have double data and you get one of those letters,
Can you choose one of the other 2 options ?

You answered your own question ;)

WTF!!!

How is that helpful?

They asked a question, and posed a possible answer...they have not answered it, especially if they are offered double data again, which based on your 'knowledge' is entirely possible.

Umm.. You would clearly choose one of the other two option's if you already have double data.

Well we dont know that. They could double his double data then when the first double data expires it halves

I think they will probably find it doesn't apply on top of other promotions, so they would have to choose one of the other two. However as these letters appear to be on getting sent to customers telecom considers very special, they probably aren't getting sent to those who are already benefiting from another promotion. I feel like leaving telecom , just becuase I don't feel they value my custom, and didn't send me a letter, and my telecom details don't work on the website.

Hmm, the telecom CSR I spoke to yesterday promised to call me back today.

I suspected he would not call, and I am right.

I hate these CSR's who promise a call back and fail to deliver .I should have got his name and number.

I'm pretty sure it's targeted on geographical area (or on exchanges/cabinets that have been upgraded). I talked to someone at Homeline solutions and he told me that my number was not eligible. We haven't been upgraded yet, nor do we live in an area where there anyone else's gear providing DSL.

I was upgraded to a new cabinet in January this year.  No letter though.

We were upgraded at the end of October this year. No letter.

its like they are asking nicely.. since we are giving you this double data  or whichever you want to pick to stay with them for another 12 months

So its like making people WANT to stay rather than forcing them to with a contract?

Haha, radical new approach, isn't it.

Now if they could get their staff to call back when they promise to they might even get some new customers (I tried to switch to Telecom but they didn't do what they promised so I gave up)

I'm on Total Home with 10g and got the offer so that blows that theory out of the water Laughing

I've found the confirmation email and this is all it lists after the marketing speel:

Things you should know:
• To continue enjoying this exclusive double data offer you will need to keep your Broadband and home calling with Telecom for the next 12 months.
• After 12 months your broadband plan will revert back to its original data allowance.
• Broadband terms and conditions apply and can be found at telecom.co.nz/broadband
