paradoxsm: Fishtext spoof sender numbers.

Unfortunately one of the side effects of protecting our customers from Bulk SMS spam means services which do this, and use unauthorised routes to our network get blocked.

I will look into it.  However as per my previous post raising the issue as a fault with the originator and in these cases the service provider is the correct way.  We can try escalate the issues with them if this fails to get any traction..

Jaidevp, thanks for helping out, and the following comments are not personal. Also this is probably not related to the ported numbers problem anyway, seeing most of the services affected in this discussion don't use spoofed sender ID.

I have never received a SMS spam coming from a NZ number. All the SMS spams I've received (not many) were from UK numbers telling me about my winning millions.

Most of the people I know who complained about unsolicited SMS received those from premium SMS services.

A lot of people I know relied on services such as Clickatell (including myself) to create services that used SMS to notify customers of appointments, upcoming events, etc. These people used Clickatell because rates were good and service reliable.

Then came Telecom and Vodafone blocking inbound SMS from Clickatell and others when a 64 number was used in the sender.

The way I see it the decision was made to protect the local SMS service providers, who most likely were seeing their revenue being eroded by competition from overseas gateways. Nothing to do with spam.

Saying the decision was made to block it from spam is the same as Vodafone saying lower MTRs would lead to an avalanche of spam, which is something that has not happened.

Again, this is not personal, just me thinking of a business decision that actually impacts in the ability of people to create new services.

Thanks for you feedback will pass it on to the business.

I have tested Groupme a few times over the past few days, it seems they keep changing routes with which to send their replies via, coupled with not doing correct number portability lookups means you get a varied experience.  We have attempted to allow these through yet they changed routes again.

I encourage everyone experiencing these issues to log a fault case with the originating service i.e. Groupme, Fishtext.  This will help in getting the services to cooperate.  I will continue pursuing with the providers on my end as well.

For three days now I'm unable to login to Google accounts because the SMS from Google with the PIN is not arriving.

Just to add my own data point (not XT though) I never got a confirmation from Vonage on my 029 ported number to 2D.  I had to do the telephone verification process. I knew about SMS problems to ported numbers from SaltyNZ's post in another forum but never put two and two together and besides, whom to complain to?

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Have you tried Bulletin.net?  I know they used to be one of the most expensive, but now the rates are just "average" and with them operating on a credit system like Clickatell's they also give you bonus credit when you top up, effectively reducing the per message price.  They also have very good deliverability.

$0.17 per message plus GST is $0.20, no different than what mobile operators charge, and more expensive than Clickatell.

Viber has launched a Windows Phone version. And yet another service that sends SMS for authentication that doesn't work with Telecom New Zealand.

Weirdly, my Google Calendar notifications come through perfectly (021 number on XT), but I still can't get Google 2-factor auth to come through.

Just tried to register my number with Battle.net (Blizzard, Diablo III) and this is another service not working for ported numbers.

My 021 ported to Telecom DOES work with Battle.net. Interesting...

I wonder if it's something on my number - one of the first to be ported back when NP was launched...
