Ragnor: That's a subjective question, I think it's acceptable for not having to pay per GB.  I don't think there is NZ steam content mirror so it was probably coming from the AU or US.

We sync at 4-5Mbit due to distance from the exchange (ADSL2 or 1 is irrelevant), our max line rate is around 400-500 KB/s.

See http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=65&topicid=24895

tl;dr  is that recoil.net.nz  have a steam cache, and its free traffic for xnet customers.

I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it. If you use my Quic signup you can also use the code R570394EKGIZ8 for free setup. Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

wow, in the last 2 weeks or so, this plan really is crawling from about 6pm to 12.

It's so bad I can't do anything. A support site I normally use wont even open between these times (fine at work).

I have to rdp to work to actually get anything done. Can barely browse. It's horrid. I hope this changes soon.

I am aware this isn't a business plan. I thought basic browsing would be fine however.

Okay, well that has made my decision.

It sounds like there is more and more complaints coming out of this plan that I would have expected.

They had been trialling this plan for over a year before officially releasing it to the public. Surely they could have anticipated this and deployed a solution - or, just not even released the plan.

I think I'm just going to have a find a way to stick to my 60GB - because there is no way in hell I'm going back to dial up, even if it means giving up unlimited data.

I'm doing around 50GB-60GB a month, and am finding some websites actually timing out, switching to a alternative connection in my flat on the Xtra PRO plan is lightning quick in comparison.

To be fair, I did open my wireless up as a free for all in the block of flats I'm in, so I figured the broadband gods were punishing me for the massive usage some months hehe.

Are you allowed to do that with your telecom connection? provide internet to other properties etc?

hey Fossie, are you in Wellington too?

Nice looking pings, but with interleaving turned off here's mine:

Only thing which really annoys me is my modem :(
It's blocking some incoming connections, like it says above, in the log it has "DOS attack" from the IP of Pingtest.net...last time I buy an Asus modem that's for sure :)

I have moved across the ditch.  Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

Hey Guys,

I'm going to give my review of Big Time Plan so far after a few days on the plan. I'm using ADSL1 since ADSL+2 isn't available in my area till Jan 2011. Frown

Firstly, I am impressed by the plan. Telecom has provided a good plan despite slowing the connection speed during peak times.

YouTube is impressive. Surprisingly, I found it much faster than Vodafone's Ultimate Plan when it came to loading the video. 7-10 min can load pretty fast.

Web-site browsing is really fast. Like YouTube, loading web pages is much faster than Vodafone.

I'm not a torrent user but my sister uses it sometimes. It's pretty slow during the 9am to 11pm ranging from speeds from 1kb/s to 100kb/s. From 12am to 8am, it is fast ranging from speeds to 500kb/s if she uses private torrent trackers. She basically leaves the torrent on for the night and when it finishes, her laptop shuts down. When she wakes up, its all done.

I just hope this plan stays like that unlike the Go Large Plan.

I'm glad that I'm on this plan. Having no usage limit is so much better and I don't have to worry how much I use. I recommend this to anyone hating usage limit.

Cheers

I forgot to add in the review about online gaming.

I'm not an online gamer but I've heard some bad things about online gaming on the plan.

Gaming went to custard completely for a few weeks, with rediculous international pings but Telecom seem to have gotten it fixed.
