Well this just pushed me over the edge to break my $120/mth Smart plan with Vodafone and move to Telecom prepaid with the $29 pack and the extra $29 data.

Less than half the price when you factor in I pay for Spotify anyway with same data, more texts and a few less minutes.

This morning i have switched my account from postpaid to prepaid as it was the easiest option to get the wife her Spotify fix

A pleasant surprise was the top up bonus of 30min and then the $29 data pack i added is still on a double the data promo. So my $58/mth spend is currently buying me 180mins and 3.5GB and free spotify which I can happily live with, long may it continue

Hi guys.

I requested the unlock for this thread as I see Spark is offering this deal again.

I am with 2Degrees but this deal is tempting me very much to switch over to the $19 Prepay plan.

Just want to double check, the Spotify usage does come off your monthly data allowance doesn't it?

I would expect it does and Spark's website indicates this also but at the moment one of the Radio hosts on The Sound radio station does a plug for the Spark/Spotify deal and says it doesn't use your data.
I've heard her twice and I think it's misleading unless someone tells me otherwise.

I believe it does, but remember you get up to 1GB of data a day from Spark's Wi-Fi network if you are in range.

If Spark offered carryover data on this plan I'd jump at it for my wife. I'd also love Spark to bundle a Spotify deal with home broadband.

To my knowledge yes it does, the Spotify component is just "We pay the Spotify Premium Subscription".

Between Offline Syncing (Spotify Premium feature) + Free WiFi Zones + Not syncing/playing over data connections, it's pretty good. Only feature it inhibits really is the Spotify Radio if you are on the move.

How much data does streaming music use?

Streaming music does use mobile data (1hr of streaming will use about 40mb), so it's best to stream when you have a WiFi connection available. If you have broadband at home, that's a great place to start. Plus, if you're on any of our Ultra Mobile monthly plans or selected Prepaid packs, you'll also get 1GB of WiFi a day for free, at over 1000+ WiFi zones nationwide.

And, with Spotify Premium, you can download playlists and albums, and then listen to them in what's called ‘Offline mode' when you don't have access to WiFi. Listening in Offline mode doesn't use any data. You just need to sync music to your mobile first and this will need an internet connection. Again, using your WiFi at home is a great way to sync your music.

To ensure you’re not using data while listening to Spotify tracks it’s important that you put the App into 'offline mode' rather than simply playing offline playlists.

I already pay $19 for a prepaid 2Degrees plan, so the Spark deal with Spotify Premium is a no brainer.

Ive just tried signing up and there was a technical error with the payment (even tho there is a debit on my account).

My sim arrived, but for a minute I couldn't work out why it wouldn't work.

Then I remembered my phone only supports Vodafone / 2 degrees networks (insert face palm).

My Spotify excitement clouded my usual over thinking process. What an epic fail lol.

I think your earlier comment about it being a no-brainer was accurate in more ways than one!

What's your phone? Perhaps it's time for an upgrade?!

These deals do often have a secondary cost such as this. Similarly, I was limited to looking for a Spark-compatible phone for my wife, as the one I would have otherwise got without such support would have meant we would have had to go back to paying an additional $13 a month.

Haha yea, i got a bit too excited.

An upgrade is the only option, but my LG g pro 2 is only two years old, still going strong, and I just can't justify spending money on a new phone.

Spark now do a $29.99 postpaid plan which they still aren't advertising on the website which mirrors the $29 prepaid plan, including free Spotify. Given that I'd be paying for Spotify anyway this effectively makes it a ~$18/month plan. Bargain.

T&C says:

12. Bonus 500MB for up to 12 months when you activate Spotify Premium between 10 December 2015 and 8 February 2016 on any Prepaid pack or Pay Monthly plan with Spotify Premium included. Eligible Prepaid pack or Pay Monthly Plan must be renewed each month and Spotify Premium account must remain active to retain the 500MB bonus every month. Excludes Spark Digital and Spark Business customers. Spark terms and conditions apply.

So, it sounds like you can drop the free Spotify for a day, and then sign up again & get the 500MB free. I can't see anything that implies against that, nor can I see anything that excludes students stacking this promo with the Student 500MB free offer (so potentially 1.5GB for $19, + Spotify & WiFi if you are a student).
