tm89: Has anyone here actually opened a case with telecom in regards to the issue?

I'm not quite sure what to even do. In the past when similar things have happened they seem to ignore it and rarely take notice of it.

I was just about to reply when you posted your last post actually, mines taken a hugeeeeee plummit in speeds this afternoon. Its insane how bad it is right now. Barely able to stream 240P YouTube, will try some others soon. VPN seems to slightly help but isn't practical in the long run.

Are you still experiencing similar things? And have you raised a ticket with telecom? If so, how, and what did you tell them/need to provide?

- Sam

Mines not improved, speeds to frequently used servers have slowed further.

I told level 1 support that i was having speed issues for international traffic when national traffic was full speed all the time, the speed test they get you to run over the phone does not replicate the issue that exists and using a VPN gives a much faster speed than what i could get without, they escalated me to level 2/complex technical support (CTS)

As for the response i got from CTS isn't flash, first call i was told that i would be given an IP change as it could be related to the pool i was in and a follow up call the following day to see how it went for me, no call back or ip change, tried contacting them thursday but call transfers kept ringing and ringing (waited up to an hour). Finally got through yesterday for an update on how they got on and was told they were waiting on me to do more trace routes which was not requested by them. Was then told there was nothing they could do about it, but re-mentioned the VPN and a few other things and was then told i would receive a call back in half an hour after a change was going to be made but still no response or change to speed.

So far there has been no suggestion/fix/change or real help given in regards to the issue, just a bit of talk, but after the last call they did acknowledge there may an issue since i can get 2.5MB/s down speed using a VPN and nothing close to that with out a VPN to the same servers.

So just have to keep doing battle and keeping on their case every few days to see what happens, hopefully if more do call in for the same issue then there will be a little more light on it.

Done some speed tests now:

Done these tests on other machines and they all had similar results. See my signature below with the speediest, see how good it once was lol. This is really not cool. Upload seems to be fine all round but that download ><

it does help to know the exact server you use as they do range a bit/a lot in the speeds they show. i got a difference of about 8mbps on the LA ones

Im on Telecom VDSL in Mangere Bridge, synced at 53/10

I get:
Line speed to Auckland
Line speed to Sydney (internode)
11.1/9.5 to Los Angles (California internet solutions)
17.8/9.1 to Dallas Texas (Soft Layer)
9/2.7 to London (Vodafone)

My Result to the Telecom NZ Speed test server:

The one to Texas is the best result ive seen to the US since ive had VDSL

Edit: i never get the best results to the telecom speed test server in Auckland, i get better results to the Vodafone one. about 1mbps on both the upload and the download and about 10-20ms less on the ping

I got 18/9.5 to the Auckland Telecom server just now. I'm in Wattle Downs, Auckland.

15/9 to Internode Sydney.\

8.13/5.37 Fireline Broadband Los Angeles

I don't have time right now to redo the rest and post the server I used but can try later. It definitely isn't that fast in real world experience though, a lot of sites take a very very long time to load and function properly.

Still having these same issues but they seem to have gotten much worse. Spoke to Telecom yesterday and I said I was mainly annoyed as it meant I can't play any real time games online. The guy swiftly blamed it on the server that hosts the game and what not. Even after explaining the speed tests to 3rd party servers around the world gave the same results I don't think he understood anything I said.

VPN ON (US West): DreamHost LA Server: 24.08Mb/s Down. 2.48Mb/s Up.
VPN OFF: DreamHost LA Server: 7.16Mb/s Down. 6.54Mb/s Up.

VPN ON (US West): Telecom NZ Server: 22.66Mb/s Down. 2.30Mb/s Up.
VPN OFF: Telecom NZ Server: 11.53Mb/s Down. 7.98Mb/s Up.

VPN ON (France): Bouygues Telecom Server: 20.44Mb/s Down. 8.87Mb/s Up.
VPN OFF: Bouygues Telecom Server: 7.84Mb/s Down. 2.88Mb/s Up.

I was super surprised at the speed test to Telecoms own server. But considering I can get near my line speed with a VPN connected, and less than half when I don't, surely that would show something is wrong along the way? Upload isn't really concerning to me. I can handle the 2Mb/s upload since I don't need it much and survived with less than 1Mb/s on ADSL. But the Download is abysmal. These tests are down during the middle of the day yesterday too. When its early evening you can forget about watching Youtube. Won't happen.

What on earth should I do now? How have your guys' speeds been

Your getting faster speeds via a US VPN node to telecoms speedtest server in nz? Something sounds off there.

Yup, These are some ones I just done now to the Telecom speed test server:

Canada, North York : 11.95 Down, 1.88 up

US, California: 18.01 Down, 2.43 up

US, West: 14.98 Down, 2.16 up

No VPN: 10.84 Down, 7.52 up

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.
