For some background re the Unlimited plan. In our last offerings, Go Large, and Big Time, those on the plans were in a separate IP pool. This allowed traffic management, prioritising to be targeted at just this plan. As has been stated by Neil and I think Peter L, there is no separate pool, everyone is equal, and there is no traffic management capabilities in place, so we cannot traffic manage, even if we wanted to.

Stats as suggested by others will help.

My internet with spark has been pretty crap for like 3-4 months now, think it started towards the end of January.
I got VDSL at the end of last year and got put onto a DLM-1 profile, my connection speeds on speedtest to NZ between like 11pm-8pm is 30 Download / 9.5-10 upload and 5 ping, to sydney its like 30 ping and similar download/upload, between 7/8/9 pm (used to consistently start at 9pm, but its been crapping out earlier lately) and fixing at 10-11pm, i play CS in an Australian team and we practice between like 9pm-12/1am on weeknights so you might understand how during this time of night is the most important for me. From the time i got VDSL installed up until the end of January i had no problems, and nothing has changed at my end, nothing new has been installed, there are only ever 2 devices connected to the internet at any one time, and mostly its only my computer that is turned on. I originally setup the wifi on the HG630b which was supplied when i joined up with Spark, I disabled it when my connection started being bad and havent set it up since.

^ This test was taken at 5pm in the afternoon, after I had been told to turn off my modem for an hour for a new Global IP to be assigned on my line.

^ This test was taken at 9pm the same night, the servers im testing are Australian CS servers.

Upon not getting much help from my next complaint online, i rung up and and then emailed them similar results and after a few days of their own testing they reckon they couldnt see much wrong, I pointed out to the lady i was speaking to that while i was lagging that this jump " 4 6 ms 10 ms 10 ms ae8-10.akbr6.global-gateway.net.nz [122.56.116.5]" was missing and she went and asked her superior and came back to me and said that during peak hours that they didnt use / jump didnt show up at that time of night, the first thought that jumped into my head was that possibly there was some form of shaping happening on my line (I mean it is peak hour, right ?). Upon pointing this out to her she dribbled over herself and said she cant talk about that, basically saying she cant confirm/deny and isnt supposed to talk about it, prior to and after this phone call i had read alot of posts on this forum from people that work @ Spark saying how they no longer do shaping etc etc, another interesting point was the first person i spoke to when i rung said that my cabinet was new and nothing could really effect my line such as shaping. I have a friend that also plays CS on Australian servers at same time as me, he has spark VDSL and lives on the North Shore, when i rung up they asked me to swap over to the Spark DNS servers, as I had been using google (originally the person on the phone wanted me to test google DNS, but once i told him i was already on it he asked me to use sparks). I gave my friend the same DNS servers and his net has been fine since, but mine still hasnt been fixed :/.

I am confused, please help.. if there is any useful information i have left out let me know :)
Oh i live in West Auckland if that is helpful
FYI when these problems first started i was on the 150 GB Plan, ive since switched to unlimited and the issues is the same, ive also switched from unlimited back to 80 GB plan to see if anything changes, and its still the same

it could be the upstream provider, the server for the game or any number of other things that your ISP has no control over

Well, the 'missing' hop is still there, but it barely cares about ICMP (ping) traffic and should be ignored in traceroutes.

It seems to me that your 9pm tracert shows lower, more consistent RTT than 5pm... Do you have them the right way round?

Your physical stats are ok and will not be the cause of the issues.

A drop in performance during only peak times points to a congestion issue somewhere (Could be on Chorus' network, handover to our network, Southern Cross, peer in Australia etc). I have no specific knowledge about which of those it might or might not be, just pointing out that there are several places it could be.

Some amount of congestion (either on our network, or outside it) at peak times is acceptable. Ugly but true. Most people don't see any congestion on our network (this isn't meant to minimise the impact to those that do - especially those on [Chorus'] Conklins etc).

Given you're still getting 15mbps+ to Aussie at peak times, and you're showing near optimal latency, it's unlikely this would be treated as a fault to be fixed.

The good news however is that if it's the result on congestion on a handover link we can see or have any control over, it will already be on a report for people to look into.

Hurts alot for me how it wont be dealt with as a fault because it is still a playable ping, just with nearly any competitive game played online the lower it is the better it is, esp in a first person shooter, but everything during this time slows down, browsing, streaming, ping increases only thing that doesnt change are my upload speeds.

It's going to be hard to get an increase in latency from 30ms to 50ms to an AU CS server in peak time to be taken seriously as a fault, it's just mild peak time congestion on a consumer grade plan.

Do you see this problem on other AU servers? I mean it does look like the increase starts in Spark (Global Gateway's) network though.

Maybe if Talkiet has some spare time he could take a look and figure out where the congestion is occurring for you (backhaul, handover, core, upstream etc), could make an interesting GZ post...
