The Okta Touch looks really cool.  Well, the touch part, anyway!  Plus we girls really love the pink Samsung M510 (envy).  It's funky (please say that with an english/lakes district accent for our Stacey's sake...).  And the little pink Sanyo 2500 looks about the right size to confuse with a chocolate bar!  BAck to the M510's, we even noticed that the interiors have got different colours! (Wow)  Especially the pink one with the purple interior.  Reminds me of a nokia chameleon faceplate...  Pity the Samsung M510 doesn't have a data cable included in the box...  Oh well, Cellnet are flogging a you-beaut bluetooth dongle...

I recently attended the CTIA Wireless Entertainment and Network conference in San Francisco. The Microsoft booth had a bunch of Windows Mobile 6.0 devices on display including the HTC Touch (from Sprint), the AT&T Tilt (now that is a cool phone) or HTC Kaiser TYTN II. Some (like the Sprint HTC Touch) were CDMA, others like the Tilt were GSM.

I had a chance to play with the Touch - it's pretty cool and intuitive to use. A combination of touch (sweep your finger over the screen and press with your finger/thumb) and use the stylus for more exact selections. Being able to attach nice pictures to your phone list and pressing the picture to call is a nice feature. I have read reviews where it compares very favourable with the iPhone. Interestingly the Touch comes in both CDMA and GSM versions so perhaps Vodafone might release a version also?

I really like the Tilt. The screen tilts up so it's like using a keyboard and monitor. However it's not clear to me if it comes in CDMA (AT&T is a GSM carrier in the US).

I had planned on purchasing a number of HTC Titan's at work but might now wait for the Touch. The pricing is favourable and I suspect with a plan including data, it will be even better.

Got my Okta Boss today, I quite like it, I've had my titan for a month & to be honest, touch screen aside, I think I will switch over the the Boss. It has a nice feel about it, I like having the keys on the front as well as the slide qwerty keyboard. I dont know what all the hype is with WM6 as from a usage point of veiw it makes little difference now that I have had a play (dont use windows Live). Camera takes nice pic's better than the titan. Has windows update (wonder how that works if the phone has specific ROM for NZ) It has a light sensor but I can seem to get it to do anything. Still cant pix when you go into the sned option give you the email option. Reception seems quite good, took it to a few areas I know are poor. Doesnt support EVDO revA, pity would have been nice.

Does it have Wifi? I have one order as a demo.

This is the version I would be keen on (granted it's not a Telecom phone but is the same basic unit) for personal use

http://www.htc.com/product/03-product_htctouch.htm

This has wifi which could be quite useful

lchiu7: Does it have Wifi?

Larry

I had to have a double take on this one, and sure enough NO wifi, this is a real bummer. I use wifi all the time ( my office is wifi ) then I had a good look at the touch specs and guess what same thing no wifi, seems strange to have devices like these with evdo, bluetooth, WM6 etc and no wifi, can't even use a wifi sd card as the card slot is micro sd. hmmm

Interesting enough the CDMA version doesn't have WiFi, but it comes with a 400 MHz processor, while the GSM version comes with WiFi but only a 200 MHz CPU.

If you have CDMA EVDO you might even forget about WiFi...

Since the CDMA version was built for Sprint and Telecom has obtained their supply from Sprint (so we are told), perhaps Sprint didn't want wifi in the phone. With so many wireless hotspots in the US, many of them free, folks could bypass the Sprint data network and just use wifi for data.

The GSM model obviously has a much larger carrier potential so HTC could put whatever they felt was useful on the device.

As for processor speed, it's interesting that this GSM model

http://www.htc.com/product/03-product_htctouch_dual.htm

has the same speed processor as the CDMA version.

Well got a REALLY good play with some varients of the touch today (forgot to check the processor speed) and I want BOTH of them!

The only downer is that the touch screen is still a thin mylar sheet (for supporting the stylus) but running it through paces with a LG Prada and iPhone I still prefer the HTC device. and of course it's an decent entire regular PDA also.

Compared to the Titan, the Camera is better. The alerter speaker is a lot louder, it's must easier to use as it's got a rubberised casing and fits more as a "phone" and the SD card is internal. I like it a lot better and I liked the Titan. I need to do some final checks tomorrow (call quality tests as this is of very high importance to me) and i'll hopefully be walking away with one!

The M1 is a good phone but that whole "same as all the other musicstore phones" concept is getting a little dated now and the display is rather tiny.

Does anyone know if the Okta Touch has a wmodem feature? I quite often use my apache as a modem for my laptop so this could be a show stopper.

Yes, you have the new "Internet Sharing" feature from Windows Mobile 6 - Bluetooth and USB.

Just did some more research and the GSM version only is an Edge phone (not even UMTS). That is a show stopper for me. Perhaps the CDMA version is faster but alas, challenges with global roaming.

have had my touch for 3 days now, and all reports are looking good. It runs rings around the Titan I had. Better call quality, louder ring tones/speaker, signal strength isnt fantastic,  but then again neither was the titan. The touch flo interface is very nice. Easy access to the comms manager and I like the fact you have the options to close open programs from the main screen. Camera wise, whilst being 2 megapixel like the titan the photo quality seems far better. The only problem I have had it the on screen keyboard. I am using the HTC keyboard on predictive, and seem to be getting used to it. Just a bit of a change. Battery wise so far after 2 days use with activesync over the air set to every 5 mins, and about 30mins of calling a day it has about 25% battery left, and thats with everyone seeing it and wanting to play with it for a bit. Have also used it as a modem for about 30mins in total, performance was quite good. The boss looked quite nice too. Its actually another good sized pda like the touch. If I sent alot of emails on the road I would have gone to the boss due to external keypad, but the Touch offered touch screen, and Remote desktop access (two things the boss doesnt have), and it was a good size slightly smaller than the Boss.
