The Govt can listen to phone calls via using the law to ask a Telco to disclose. A teller can check your bank account. You want to use the CGA to protect your purchase, you want the Govt to have access to free trade for all our benefits, but protecting against terrorism by viewing your emails that you send to your mate in Matamata is a problem?

How did you know I email a mate in Matamata, are you a govt spy? :)

Back on the topic... I received a letter from Spark regarding this move, even though my Xtra email account was closed many, many years ago.

Like you I had one of those accounts years ago which I logged into once just to check it. Never touched it again as Yahoo had always had a bad reputation with email security. When Xtra moved to them I knew it would all end in tears.

As they say, when a product/service is free, you are the product/service.

Fair call. How much is your Gmail email account per month, or your Hotmail/Outlook.com?

But of any one of these, or anyone else got hacked or had email issues, then is that because they are free? Or is it because its IT and things can and will happen. You can get a BB service that is 100% guaranteed. That doesnt mean it wont go down, but the price you pay will give you compensation. The issue is things happen, whether its IT or not. six mentioned earlier, my mate hates Sony as they got hacked years ago. So, we should all hate Sony, bin our PS3, PS4, the PSVR that on the courier?

"one more chance"

I gave spark  permission to move my email ,via the link sent in the email, and also seemed to have to do a pass reset(forced?) at the same time

Im still getting the 'give permission' emails . Actually just got the "one last chance" email.

So does that mean that the give permission, via spark webste, failed
or , Spark are just spitting out these 'give permission' emails regardless ?

If you are still getting the emails I would suspect it's because either you opted in just when a data extract was being run and you were incorrectly brought over into the next round of emails. Or that the opt-in failed.

I would just run through the optin process again just in case.

The opt-in requires me to changes my password, again. Dont really want to do that, again .
Also, why does the opt in email link to doubleclick ? that got flagged by my browser when I clicked the last opt in email

doubleclick, what sort of bogus opt in is spark running here ? frown

I created a new xtra email account last week. However there looks to be no way to give my permission to move it any longer. Or is it now automatic? I am wondering if this could be something they didn't think about when people setup new xtra email accounts in the Yahoo system?

The opt in ended 30 Nov. This means that if you opted in, your email will migrate to SMX, with emails, contacts, etc. If you did not opt in, your email account will still migrate to SMX, but without the emails, contacts etc. So you would need to manage that emails, contacts, etc move yourself. If you created a new Xtra email post 30 Nov, the latter applies, as you cannot now opt in.

Any indication whether Spark/SMX will be providing optional Exchange ActiveSync access for the replacement for Yahoo/Xtra e-mail (ie for non-TelecomBusinessHub e-mail)?

It would be great if they did.

Its getting harder to stay with Xtra email anyway...It has been down for the past 3 days although you can still use webmail ok. Spark said last night that it would be at least another 24hrs before its fixed. Jeez.... :-(

I wouldnt make that assumption.

Thats been one of YahooXtra's issues for years now, outages/issues that dont affect everyone .
I had a known smtp login issue last month, that didnt affect everyone, but I found a workaround on GPForums as it was affecting others here (not all).

really does seem to be getting worse in general , more & more issues . Just part of the pain of the switch away from Yahoo ?

From the status page today, yet another issue (so its not just him) :-)

YAHOO EMAIL ISSUE
Some customers may be experiencing problems receiving Yahoo! Xtra mail when using third party email clients such as outlook.  Our technicians are currently working on it. You can still access Yahoo! Mail using webmail at xtramail.co.nz.  Please refresh this page for the latest updates on this issue.  We apologise for any inconvenience.

Now it looks like those who are affected (probably those still using Outlook Express etc) are being told they need to update to a newer email client. I can see a backlash happening soon.

From their status page:

Investigations have shown that this is affecting customers on older email clients and upgrading to a more secure modern client resolves the issues. If you are experiencing these issues and are on an older email client we recommend upgrading to a more secure modern client – there are free options for this available such as Thunderbird.
