jaidevp: There is currently a restriction class placed on 2100 certainly in Auckland to allow us to optimise it before launching.

What does a restriction class mean out of interest?

I just can't understand why anybody would want to use a 2100MHz only device.

Telecom's XT network has never been promoted as a 2100MHz network and nobody has ever given any guarantees as to the extent of 2100Mhz coverage.

What use is a phone that doesn't work most of the time?

Because I have a feature rich phone that works on 2100 wherever I go in Auckland - I have a Telecom phone if I go elesewhere and can swap sim cards.

Virtually all Lower Hutt sites have had 2100 panels fitted from day 1. We know the reasons why Telecom haven't been able to deploy a dual band network quite so easily.

I still am getting 2100mhz coverage in Wattle Downs, Auckland. I just brought a XT sim card for a new phone on its way, (nokia 6500 slide. :D) anyways, i put the sim card in, phone boots as normal but dont get the vodafone start up splash screen. phone starts searching for network and then it finally connects to Telecom NZ (i have to select it manually from the carrier selection list) but in the home screen it just says "No access to netw." even though its selected to connect to telecom NZ and has full signal strength. kind of sucks. anyone know whats up with this? my current phone is a sony ericsson G502 with 2100mhz 3G only (has the typical gsm bands, 900/1800/1900mhz).  but yeh, I have good signal in Wattle Downs.

on a side note too, i tried this at sylvia park trainstation moments after buying my sim card. and i still had the same problem.

Were there not issues with the network initially running dual band sites?

end of July launch....it came and it went. It worked again for a morning. I have been told there are a few problems still but no one seems to be able to tell me what they are and when the 2100 service will actually be launched......
