Well.. in the end i decided the Telecom TP2 was too expensive for me and i didnt want to go on a 2 year contract with a high monthly fee to get an abysmal rebate.
I've decided to get the Telstra model at a cheaper cost and with 12 month warranty from a NZ agent. Once it's shipped over, I'll flash it to the generic rom, to get rid of the silly Telstra rubbish on it.

Lots of hassles, you could still get a good deal after all that but having to send the phone back to Aussie for a warranty repair isnt practical.
Found a aussie trader on trademe with excellent feedback and who has a NZ repair agent for warranty issues. He pays the shipping and the import tax as well.

Most new handsets these days are Quad Band GSM.
2Degrees is currently running on a GSM network, so both models will work fine.
Next year i believe 2Degrees will run a 3G 2100 network.
T7373 is 900/2100 3G T7381 is 850/2100 3G
so therefore both will work fine on 2Degrees now and when their 3G is running :-)

Got my Telstra (eww) Touch Pro 2, and now that i have it, I love it!. First thing I did was to install a custom bootloader, so I can wipe the horrible telstra rom and flash a new rom, specifically the new WM6.5 Europe Rom. Had a prepaid XT sim already, which was popped in and was up and running pretty much immediately and making the most of XT's network :-). The only thing I needed to adjust specifically was set the Internet APN and that was it.

A bit on the heavy side, but I am surprised how much responsive to finger it is, compared with the HTC Diamond. The keyboard is really nice - I like it lots.
The screen is nice, as all those WVGA ones are. I was a bit worried about HTC customisation on top of Windows Mobile, but so far menus and other things seem to be all skinned so not a big deal.
In terms of speed it's really nice - I thought it would be a bit slow but actually is quite responsive.
Battery life was a surprise too, since I expected it to last a day or less with push e-mail on, but it's going well for a day and something. Haven't used it heavily as I normally do when travelling (Twikini, Googles Maps, email a lot when out and about).

The TP2 was always going to be my next phone after my Titan. I agree it is a bit on the heavy side and everything else you've said. The Telstra model i bought was horrible with customizations that couldnt be removed without a firmware change. I've now got the generic rom which is identical to Telecom's model so I'm happy now.
