My family too has been without cap since Go-large was out, now we have 5+ users at my home using 120GB a month, and none of other plans being offered seems to cut it.

My question is: Will the current Big Time users be kicked off the plan if they do not leave?

You're right, it is disappointing and by no means was it an easy decision, many options were considered/explored/tested before we had to make the hard call of removing the plan. We did spend a long time before launching Big Time going through all available material in relation to Go Large I would say the issues this time round are of a different nature and scale.

Yes, in July overage for the Pro plan will be changed to $2 per GB down from $20

Can we make that $1 per gb? Then you'd be on par with Xnet, and Slingshot 50gb packs.

I certainly hope they come out with a new, low priced 300GB plan...Pro is overpriced for what it is IMHO.

doozy: No truth in that, the Big Time device was new and I believe the old Go Large one is under someones desk in Wellington right now (unconfirmed report)

The reality of removing a plan means yes, eventually we have to close it down completely, you will receive a letter from us which will outline the exit plan, it will give you (at least) 30 days notice.

Nobody seems to have a suitable and affordable plan for the likes of a large family
or student flat

Am most sad to hear of the grandfathering of Big Time, for a while there was one fewer worries in life when the Telecom bill arrived each month. There was also the comfortable feeling that you enjoyed a service (data cap free broadband) that the rest of the civilised word took for granted (all be it without the bandwidth but for the price, Big Time was great).

Would you consider a new plan with

Traffic management rules and a generous 200 GB data cap for international traffic or

No traffic management and a 100 GB cap (for international traffic) or

Set period bandwidth limit afternoons-late evenings for international traffic (no traffic shaping or data cap but *with* quarterly notified bandwidth adjustments)?

One point is that if you did management traffic and have a data cap we'd want to know the management rules being applied to help decide which plan to choose, 40 GB just isn't realistic for a contemporary family.

Introducing a data cap to your price matrix is a retrograde step just at the time when NZ was at least catching up to the US standards of service (from 10 years ago). We’re a third tier country that gets the iPad at least 3 months after the US, our BB speeds are inferior and the data cap returns us to 1995.

At least a generous data cap would only take us back to early in this decade and traffic management would give you flexibility to protect the network.
