Appears to be working. Thought it was a fixed line problem until I tried my phone and then my computer again, and it just all worked. *cross fingers that it stays like this*

Linuxluver:
Ramboss: I hope this isn't fallout from NZ deporting kim dotcom

He hasn't been deported. .

Not Yet atleast (but as you say money buys law, although dotcom has a bit of a slush fund of his own)

plambrechtsen: The issue is being worked on with the highest priority.  I can also say it's not being caused by the transparent proxy as I am no longer going via it, and I am having the issue too.

I've noticed that google is now going via the Sydney Akamai farm so I suspect something has gone untoward with the Akamai farm in NZ.

in a less busy moment, would someone mind explaining why it's an issue with Google (not Bing/etc.; not _all sites_), and whether or not this happens with any other sites we might be familiar with (youtube, facebook, etc.)?

On-Demand was having issues as the player page has lookups to both Facebook and Google Analytics and it was hanging on both of them, once I host-blocked them it fired up and worked fine, and a download I had running before things failed kept happily running at >1MB/sec the whole time.

XT Mobile also failed for me, I was unable to google for a couple of things I was trying to find and it got nowhere, tried different DNS servers which didn't help. Seems ok this morning though.

I don't even know what this means.

is that something you can do and bookmark to switch to when it's lagging?

We've had a staff member report a similar issue accessing Rabobank's website now. When using an alternative ISP, there is no problem.

one of our computers is having issues with Yahoo, today. (intermittent inability to load pages) :S

is there any reason to think restarting the modem/router would change anything, or is it solely a Telecom issue?

I haven't seen any of the similar cache issues we had earlier on.  The Akamai farm was acting up a few days ago affecting Vimeo, but that seems to be fixed too.

Try logging a call with 0800 225 598 and see what they have to say.
