Mainly #2 and #3.

#2 will still benefit from the modem firmware too but this will help bridge the gap a ton.

#3 is a complex one as one member here has shown, so it's not fully resolved but is a damnsight better for your average home.

Is the update to the MESH units still slowly rolling out? The firmware on my two units still seems to be unchanged at 1.00.04.

I was planning on taking it to a Spark Fibre connection, plug it in, and was hoping the firmware would get updated immediately.....

but if they roll out over time that wouldn't work ....

Nope, Spark firmware upgrades happen soon as the modem checks in next, we don't currently stagger them unless it's any testing situation.

We are hoping to be pushing out a new firmware for the modem in the next week or so.

Will a bigpipe branded one get the updates on a Spark connection? I managed to get myself one cheap. Damned good little router so far. Ditched my expensive WAP for the routers wireless.

Two questions about the Spark Smart Modem.

1. Is there any way to rename a device in the GUI?

Reason for asking is the modem GUI shows devices which I don't recognise as they are the original names of the PCs, not the names I changed the PCs to. This has occurred because I connected to the network when I unboxed and set the computers up from scratch, and connecting to the network happened before I changed the device name from some obscure random series of numbers and letters, to something more meaningful. On the GUI of the Smart Modem it still shows the original names of the devices at the time of first connection, which (being a random series of numbers and letters) mean nothing to me now and I'm not sure which belongs to what. I have to disconnect them one by one to figure it out, which is annoying. The computers which had already been renamed before I connected to the network all show with the new, identifiable names.

2. Is there anyway to delete a previously connected device?

This is useful for getting rid of devices I don't use or own anymore.

Both of these things could be done on the old HG695b but I can't see how on the Smart Modem, at least not without resetting the modem and starting over.

Yes, Bigpipe and Skinnys update method will actually work regardless of provider your on.

At this stage no, However it's on our list of things we may look at adding.

No, However the smart modem doesn't hold onto device lists like the Hauwei series do, so this is much less of an issue - a simple reboot will reset it until the devices get picked up on the network.

Thanks @hio77. OK. That's good to know about old devices not remaining stored. The other reason I was wondering as I was considering deleting a device and then re-adding it as a way to change the device name to the correct one I renamed it to, if renaming wasn't possible. Good to know you're considering adding the renaming functionality.

I am currently on 176 days up time with this modem. Not bad! (*goes to touch wood in case I jinx my connection*)

bigpipe is ever so slightly different firmware, so is possible the crash issue didn't exist there. (and no you can't cross flash it before anyone asks!)

Hi, I have just set my smart modem and mesh today. Now I have 3 questions. Would you please take some time to help me?

1. Now my firmware is v6.00.15 (modem), 1.00.04 (Mesh). Are these the latest version? And how can I upgrade? It asks me a password to upgrade

2. A smart light bulb in my house can only be connected to a phone using 2.4ghz through bluetooth. But my phone automatically connects to the 5Ghz one.

3. To solve the second problem, I created a guest network and only make the 2.4ghz available, It works. But I am worried whether creating anothor channel would slow my net speed or not

And it would probably be longer if I didn't get a firmware update 176 days ago! I have VDSL and just the modem, no mesh unit as my house is tiny. I'm with Spark, not Bigpipe. :)

The frequent dropouts I'm experiencing also randomly affect ethernet devices as well. [edited] It's enough to bump my internet radio off and for it not to restart. Other devices gracefully resume activity.

I'm happy to report that after months of extremely frequent interruptions (every 3 - 20mins) causing my AVR's internet radio to cut out (damn annoying!), that it's now resolved.

It wasn't the Smart Modem. I'm told that Spark made a change to their network the day before yesterday (in the morning) and since then it's been brilliant!

@grolschie that’s good to hear. I have been hold off transferring to Spark until some positive feedback started to filter through regarding the effectiveness of the updates.
