isn't the whole point of the wifi access points to take load off the cellular network in popular areas?

loceff13: How does Telecom plan to identify and stop people degrading services, it's not impossible to imagine a few people are going to try to register 5 'devices' per SIM and do a large amount of traffic daily simply spoofing their MAC address(SIM's not required after registering a specific MAC) if they live or work near a phone box.

richms: I find that it will auto reconnect if you are gone for a while, but come back next day and it will pop up the notification to log onto the network and I have to press somethign on the page.

_REALLY_ annoying since because of androids braindeadness of turning off the 3g before checking that the wifi works, you are sitting there with your phone in your pocket offline till you look at it and press the thingie on the redirected web page to actually work.

So yes, people can do a lot of traffic, but it will actually cost them money so it's not practical to do a serious amount of data. Like hundreds of GBs.

E.g. 300GB will require ten subscription. Cheapest way to do that is ten lots of ten dollar subs, which also requires ten sims. But for 100 and a lot less hassle you can get more data than that anyway on e.g. Orcon unlimited

There is no cost if you used WiFi before the 13th, still 7 weeks free for people in that situation regardless of network used. Depends if it's 1GB per device (5 max until trial ends then drops to 2) or 1GB across multiple devices (or MAC addresses..). So it could be either 30GB or 150GB a month for a $2 SIM if you went and got a Skinny one 2 weeks ago.
