WOW. Finally got the touch today and i am improessed. Had a few issues setting up mp3s for msg alerts but found the folowing statment ont he web which allows them to be set for sms alerts. Great fone

If you place your MP3's in the Sounds folder, they will show up in the list of ringers. You can get there by following below:

Click "Explore" in ActiveSync
Click "My Windows Mobile-Based Device"
Click "Application Data"
Click "Sounds"

Hi.. can you please check your bill online please (if you have access).. I just got my handset connected on the 3rd, and already in the "recent activity" section, I have a $5.49 charge for 1:00:00 of activity.. thats a bit odd, as I was just setting up my activesync profile against a blank (new) windows live account that day (total of 5 emails with no more than 500bytes each)..

A bit worried about bill shock.. I am on a $10/month flexi plan.

The time duration on bill online is not indicative of how much time you spent, rather the amount of data that was transferred. You said that you were on the flexi plan which has a ~$1 per MB charge (if you use a lot of data on a regular basis - consider switching plans). You can also ring up and ask how much was used (they should be able to give you an amount in MB's).

ActiveSync by default won't download 'much' (ie. limited email sizes, attachments etc) however it is still uses data. Particularly when you change the defaults, set the device to poll more frequently, or enable push email.

I'd suggest using a program such as SPB GPRS monitor (I use it, and it works great) which allows you to see your traffic usage in real-time. Setting up usage alerts at thresholds might be good as well.

I have a touch on the 200MB+ plan which I rarely go over 200MB (push email), but its more cost effective than being on flexi.

Anyone know what the wiring is for mini usb to stereo headset? The little earbuds don't work for me and I want to use some better headphones.

I had the lock-up occasionally but it seems to have now gone away.

Forget the earbuds, You can get an adapter from Telecom that has a regular 3.55mm socket. $20 approx

Be warned about most of the shonky "aftermarket" car chargers from the vodafone stores though. The two I had are total junk and the usb plug kept falling apart!!!. I now use a cig lighter to 5v USB plug and a lead from (DSE M9944 $19.99)

I got the adaptor too and it works a treat, also grabbed the cigy lighter charger from telecom and it seems to work fine too (interestingly its the same as the v3 motorola and other phones that charge via the mini USB).

Now to download a decent notification app as Ive found th ecurrent interface is fairly crap for sms notifications and so forth.

I've had my touch for a few weeks and it's awesome!

A question though, I copied a few music videos onto the phone and memory card, and they play really choppy, like it's not really worth watching them. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Depends on what you use to play them and how you have it setup.

A lot of huge videos will play choppy, remember it's only equivalent to about a 200MMX px.

I get good results from TCPMP and a pile of extra plugins. anything formatted for 320 x 240 play smooth generally Youtube videos play almost dead smooth, but 640 x 480 videos play quite choppy.

Also make sure you don't convert to a high bit rate.

I'll zip them up and upload them I don't think you can get them from many places now..
TCPMP + FLV player, Xvid player, AAC audio decoder.

You will also need to change a setting in TCPMP to suit the tough or else anything will play extremely choppy (Options, Video, Raw Framebuffer)

Thanks Loismustdye for the tip on attaching mp3 sounds to message alerts - would be nice if such information was available in the handbook - much appreciated. I too love my Touch and am very happy with just about everything... there are just a couple of questions I'm hoping people may be able to offer answers to though:

1. I loathe predictive text (XT9) and am sick to death of fighting it (I know what I want to write). I would like to be able to either disable it entirely or at least stop it coming up as the default option for messaging, in favour of plain text, which most often I have to select. Any ideas? Anyone?

2. And how on earth do you send group texts? I've allocated categories for all my contacts, but all that allows me to do (as far as I can see) is filter them when selecting. What if I want to send a greeting to all my friends, or business associates, or family...?

Again, these are things I haven't seen explained in the handbook, so if someone has deeper knowledge, I'd love to hear from you.

it will change your default sip

Or you can also download this iphone like keyboard called : touchpal. It is a superior to the default one.. Much more responsive.

I'm working on zipping the TCPMP files up, it seems my "Kingston" memory card from trademe was a horrible fake and it's REALLY SLOW! reminding me of speeds like Fast-lynx over a serial cable! It's 77% backed up now so I should not be too far away. No wonder my 6275 always gave me problems!

The files are there and ready to be zipped up but I tried last night and gave up after 20 minutes and decided to back up the card and then pulverize it to diamond dust with a hammer.
